Heavy bleeding 13 days after medical abortion?
On April 10th, I took the first dose of RU486 (13 days ago).
On April 12th, I took the second dose of RU486 (11 days ago).
From that day until April 14th (Friday), I experienced a significant amount of solid blood clots.
By April 16th (Sunday), the bleeding had decreased to very little (almost none), and I thought it was about to stop.
However, in the last couple of days, the bleeding suddenly increased significantly, and today I noticed a lot of jelly-like blood clots that I usually only see during my menstrual period.
Additionally, for some reason, my libido has suddenly increased over the past couple of days (I typically do not have these feelings, only during my menstrual period).
Given my current situation, is it possible that I am experiencing my menstrual period, or am I still experiencing bleeding from the medication? If it is still bleeding from the medication, is this normal?

Hello, Miss: Your current condition is not menstruation.
The current situation is bleeding after medication.
It is recommended to continue follow-up visits for 7-14 days after a medical abortion until complete miscarriage is confirmed.

After a medical abortion, experiencing heavy bleeding can be concerning, and it's essential to understand what to expect during the recovery process. Based on your description, it seems you are experiencing a significant amount of bleeding and passing blood clots, which can be common following a medical abortion. However, there are several factors to consider regarding your symptoms and what they may indicate.
Firstly, it is important to note that after a medical abortion, it is normal to experience bleeding that can last for several days to weeks. The bleeding may start heavy, taper off, and then sometimes increase again, which can be confusing. The presence of large blood clots, especially those resembling jelly, can also occur as the uterus expels the remaining tissue. This process can take time, and the amount of bleeding can vary from person to person.
In your case, since you mentioned that the bleeding was heavy initially and then decreased, only to increase again, it is crucial to monitor the situation closely. Heavy bleeding after a medical abortion can sometimes indicate retained products of conception, which may require further medical evaluation. If you find that you are soaking through pads in an hour or less, or if you experience severe pain, fever, or foul-smelling discharge, you should seek medical attention immediately.
Regarding the increase in sexual desire you mentioned, hormonal changes following an abortion can lead to fluctuations in libido. After an abortion, your body undergoes significant hormonal shifts as it returns to its pre-pregnancy state. This can sometimes result in increased sexual desire, which may be surprising if it is not typical for you.
To summarize, while some bleeding and clotting can be normal after a medical abortion, it is essential to keep an eye on the volume and nature of the bleeding. If you are concerned about the amount of bleeding or if you experience any alarming symptoms, it is advisable to contact your healthcare provider for further evaluation. They may perform an ultrasound to ensure that there are no retained products and to assess your recovery.
In terms of what to expect moving forward, your menstrual cycle may take some time to regulate after the abortion. It is common for the first period to be heavier or more irregular than usual. Typically, menstruation can return within four to six weeks after the procedure, but this can vary based on individual circumstances.
In conclusion, while some bleeding and changes in libido can be normal after a medical abortion, it is essential to monitor your symptoms closely. If you have any concerns or experience significant changes, do not hesitate to reach out to your healthcare provider for guidance and support. Your health and well-being are paramount, and seeking professional advice can help ensure a smooth recovery process.
