Not sure how to eat?
I recently finished my first pack of Diane (Diane-35) for menstrual regulation.
The doctor told me that after taking all 21 pills, my period should come within 7 days.
However, today is the fourth day, and I still haven't had any bleeding.
I would like to know if I need to wait for my period to start before taking the next month's pack of Diane, or should I continue with the next pack even if I don't have any bleeding after the 7 days?

You can wait for your menstrual cycle to start before taking it for the first time, but if you are taking it regularly, you can start taking it immediately.

More Info
When it comes to taking Diane-35, a common oral contraceptive that contains cyproterone acetate and ethinyl estradiol, understanding the timing and management of your menstrual cycle is crucial for effective use. Diane-35 is often prescribed not only for contraception but also for managing conditions like acne and hormonal imbalances due to its anti-androgenic properties.
Starting Diane-35
Typically, Diane-35 is recommended to be started on the first day of your menstrual cycle. This means that you should take your first pill on the first day of your period. However, some healthcare providers may suggest starting it on the fifth to seventh day of your cycle, especially if you have irregular cycles or if your doctor believes it may be more beneficial for your specific situation. It’s essential to follow your healthcare provider's instructions, as they will tailor their advice based on your health history and needs.
What to Do If Your Period Does Not Start
After completing a 21-day course of Diane-35, you are expected to have a withdrawal bleed (similar to a period) during the 7-day break. If you do not experience bleeding within this time frame, it is important to consider a few factors:
1. Continue with the Next Pack: If you do not have a withdrawal bleed after the 7-day break, you should still continue taking the next pack of Diane-35 as scheduled. The absence of bleeding does not mean that the medication is ineffective; it could be due to hormonal adjustments your body is making in response to the medication.
2. Pregnancy Consideration: If you have had unprotected intercourse during the cycle and do not get your period, it is advisable to take a pregnancy test. While Diane-35 is effective in preventing pregnancy when taken correctly, no contraceptive method is 100% foolproof.
3. Consult Your Healthcare Provider: If you consistently do not have a withdrawal bleed after several cycles, or if you experience other concerning symptoms, it is important to consult your healthcare provider. They may want to evaluate your hormonal levels or consider alternative contraceptive methods.
Understanding the Menstrual Cycle and Diane-35
The menstrual cycle can be affected by various factors, including stress, weight changes, and hormonal fluctuations. Diane-35 works by regulating hormones and can sometimes lead to lighter periods or even missed periods, especially in the initial months of use. This is generally considered normal, but ongoing monitoring is essential.
Conclusion
In summary, if you do not experience a withdrawal bleed after the 7-day break following your first pack of Diane-35, you should continue with the next pack as scheduled. However, keep an eye on your body’s responses and consult your healthcare provider if you have any concerns. It’s important to maintain open communication with your healthcare provider to ensure that your contraceptive method is working effectively for you and to address any side effects or irregularities you may experience.
