Drug side effects
Last week, I visited a urologist due to symptoms of frequent urination.
After a digital rectal examination, the doctor suspected prostatitis and I am currently waiting for the urine test results.
I was prescribed a seven-day course of Harnalidge D tablets 0.2 mg to take one at bedtime, Voren enteric-coated tablets three times daily, Rowapraxin F.C.
tablets three times daily, and Uroprin coated tablets three times daily.
Today, during masturbation, I experienced orgasm but did not ejaculate.
I would like to inquire whether this could be a side effect of the medication or if it is related to prostatitis.

Hello: Hanalidge may cause a decrease in semen volume, and if there is inflammation, it is likely to present with urinary symptoms.
Wishing you good health.

When dealing with urological issues, particularly those related to prostate inflammation, it is essential to understand the potential side effects of medications prescribed for treatment. In your case, you have been diagnosed with possible prostatitis and are currently taking a combination of medications, including Harnalidge D, Voren, Rowapraxin, and Uroprin.
Harnalidge D (which contains tamsulosin) is primarily used to treat symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) by relaxing the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck, making it easier to urinate. One of the known side effects of tamsulosin is retrograde ejaculation, which is when semen enters the bladder instead of being expelled through the urethra during ejaculation. This could explain your experience of having a sensation of orgasm without the expulsion of semen. It is important to note that this side effect is generally not harmful and tends to resolve after discontinuation of the medication.
Voren (which typically contains diclofenac) is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that helps reduce inflammation and pain. While it is not directly associated with sexual function, any medication that alters your body's inflammatory response can indirectly affect sexual health.
Rowapraxin (which may contain a combination of medications) and Uroprin (often used for urinary tract symptoms) can also have side effects that may contribute to changes in sexual function or ejaculation. However, the specific impact of these medications on ejaculation is less well-documented compared to tamsulosin.
Prostatitis itself can also lead to sexual dysfunction. Inflammation of the prostate can cause discomfort and may affect the nerves and blood flow necessary for normal sexual function. Symptoms such as frequent urination and a feeling of incomplete bladder emptying can also contribute to anxiety or stress, which can further impact sexual performance.
Given your symptoms, it is advisable to monitor your condition closely. If the sensation of orgasm without ejaculation persists or if you experience other concerning symptoms, it is crucial to discuss these with your healthcare provider. They may consider adjusting your medication regimen or exploring other treatment options.
In the meantime, here are some general recommendations:
1. Communication with Your Doctor: Keep an open line of communication with your healthcare provider about any side effects you experience. They can provide guidance tailored to your specific situation.
2. Avoid Self-Medication: Do not stop or adjust your medication without consulting your doctor, as this could worsen your condition or lead to other complications.
3. Lifestyle Modifications: Consider lifestyle changes that may help alleviate symptoms, such as reducing caffeine and alcohol intake, practicing pelvic floor exercises, and managing stress.
4. Follow-Up Appointments: Ensure you attend follow-up appointments to monitor your condition and the effectiveness of your treatment plan.
5. Seek Support: If you find that your symptoms are affecting your mental health or relationships, consider seeking support from a mental health professional or a support group.
In conclusion, while the medications you are taking may contribute to the changes in ejaculation you are experiencing, prostatitis itself can also play a significant role. It is essential to work closely with your healthcare provider to address these issues and ensure a comprehensive approach to your treatment.
