White spots around the anal area?
Hello Doctor: Recently, while showering, I noticed an abnormal sensation around my anus, feeling like a small protrusion.
After showering, I observed it as shown in the photos.

I'm unsure what it is; there is usually no pain, but when I touch it while showering, there is a slight stinging sensation.
This has been present for about four to five days.
Additionally, I noticed white spots, and about one to two weeks ago, I experienced a strong urge to defecate after lunch during my break, but the stool was not solid.
I'm uncertain if this is related.
Since the day of my inquiry, there have been no related symptoms.
I would like to ask the doctor what this symptom might be.
Can it be treated with over-the-counter ointments from the pharmacy? What would you recommend as a course of action? Thank you.

More Info
The presence of white bumps around the anus can be concerning, and it’s important to understand the potential causes and appropriate treatments. Based on your description, the bumps you are experiencing could be due to several factors, including but not limited to:
1. Hemorrhoids: Swollen blood vessels in the rectal area can cause lumps that may be painful or itchy. They can appear as small bumps and may cause discomfort during bowel movements.
2. Skin Tags: These are benign growths that can occur around the anus and are usually painless. They can develop from friction or irritation.
3. Anal Warts: Caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), these can appear as small, flesh-colored or white bumps around the anal area. They may be painless but can cause discomfort.
4. Folliculitis: This is an inflammation of hair follicles that can occur in the anal region, leading to small red or white bumps.
5. Cysts: Sebaceous cysts can develop in the anal area, presenting as small lumps that may or may not be painful.
6. Infections: Certain infections, including fungal or bacterial infections, can lead to the development of bumps or lesions.
Given that you have noted a sensation of slight pain when touching the area and have experienced changes in your bowel movements, it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional for an accurate diagnosis. While over-the-counter creams may provide temporary relief for some conditions, they may not be effective for others, especially if the underlying cause is not addressed.
Treatment Options
1. Over-the-Counter Treatments: If the bumps are due to hemorrhoids, topical treatments containing hydrocortisone or witch hazel can help reduce inflammation and discomfort. However, these should be used with caution and not for prolonged periods without medical advice.
2. Warm Sitz Baths: Soaking in warm water can provide relief from discomfort and help soothe the area.
3. Avoiding Irritants: It’s important to avoid harsh soaps or wipes that can irritate the anal area. Gentle cleansing with mild soap and water is recommended.
4. Dietary Changes: If you are experiencing irregular bowel movements, increasing fiber intake can help promote regularity and prevent straining during bowel movements, which can exacerbate hemorrhoids.
5. Medical Evaluation: If the bumps persist, change in appearance, or if you experience additional symptoms such as bleeding, significant pain, or changes in bowel habits, it is crucial to seek medical evaluation. A healthcare provider may perform a physical examination and possibly recommend further tests or treatments based on the diagnosis.
Conclusion
In summary, while there are several potential causes for the white bumps around your anus, self-diagnosis can be misleading. It is best to consult with a healthcare professional who can provide a thorough examination and appropriate treatment options tailored to your specific condition. In the meantime, maintaining good hygiene, avoiding irritants, and considering dietary adjustments can help manage symptoms.
