Morning erection issues?
Hello, doctor.
I am 15 years old and have not experienced morning erections since the fifth grade, and now I am in the third year of junior high school.
When I was younger, I would always have morning erections when I woke up for school.
During the long summer break from sixth grade to first year of junior high due to COVID-19, I stayed up playing games until 5 AM every day.
However, starting from the second year of junior high, I have been going to bed at 11 PM and waking up at 6:30 AM, but I still have not experienced any morning erections.
I would like to know if this is related to my irregular sleep schedule during first year of junior high.
Is it normal that I still have not had morning erections now that I have a regular sleep schedule? This issue has been bothering me for a long time, and I have searched online for reasons for the disappearance of morning erections, but none of the explanations fit my situation.
Additionally, I would like to know if not having morning erections for such a long time will have any effects.
Does this count as a sexual dysfunction? Furthermore, I have a condition of phimosis (the glans cannot be exposed when the penis is erect, but I can push it down with my hand).
Will this affect the growth of my penis? It seems that my penis has not developed at all up to now.
I would appreciate your insights on these concerns that have troubled me for many years, and if there are any methods to encourage morning erections.

Hello: Morning erections vary from person to person; not everyone experiences them.
It's important to pay attention to rest and exercise.
If you tend to drink too little water, I recommend increasing your fluid intake.
Wishing you good health.

Morning erections, also known as nocturnal penile tumescence, are a normal physiological phenomenon that occurs during sleep, particularly during REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. For many boys and young men, these erections can be a common occurrence, especially during puberty when hormonal changes are at their peak. However, it is not uncommon for some individuals to experience variations in the frequency or presence of morning erections, particularly during different life stages or due to changes in lifestyle.
In your case, you mentioned that you experienced regular morning erections until around the time of the COVID-19 pandemic when your sleep schedule became irregular. It is possible that the changes in your sleep patterns, including staying up late and waking up early, could have affected your body's natural rhythms, including the occurrence of morning erections. Sleep plays a crucial role in hormonal regulation, and disruptions in sleep can impact testosterone levels, which in turn can influence erectile function.
As you have returned to a more regular sleep schedule, it is understandable to expect that morning erections might resume. However, if you have not experienced them for an extended period, it could be a source of concern. It is important to note that the absence of morning erections does not necessarily indicate a problem with sexual function or health. Many factors can contribute to this, including stress, anxiety, hormonal fluctuations, and overall physical health.
Regarding your concern about whether the absence of morning erections indicates a sexual dysfunction, it is essential to consider the broader context of your health and well-being. If you are otherwise healthy, have no issues with sexual arousal or function, and are experiencing normal sexual development, the absence of morning erections alone may not be a cause for alarm. However, if you have concerns about your sexual health or development, it may be beneficial to consult a healthcare professional who specializes in adolescent health or urology.
You also mentioned having a condition known as phimosis, where the foreskin cannot be retracted fully over the glans (head) of the penis. While this condition can be common in younger boys, it is important to monitor it as you grow older. In some cases, phimosis can lead to complications such as discomfort during erections or difficulties with hygiene. If you are concerned about how this might affect your penile development, it would be advisable to discuss this with a healthcare provider. They can assess your situation and provide guidance on whether any treatment is necessary.
As for stimulating morning erections, there are a few general recommendations that may help:
1. Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle: Regular exercise, a balanced diet, and adequate hydration can improve overall health and potentially enhance sexual function.
2. Manage Stress: High levels of stress and anxiety can negatively impact sexual health. Consider incorporating relaxation techniques such as mindfulness, meditation, or yoga into your routine.
3. Sleep Hygiene: Ensure you are getting enough quality sleep. Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep per night, and try to maintain a consistent sleep schedule.
4. Consult a Healthcare Provider: If you continue to have concerns about the absence of morning erections or any other aspects of your sexual health, seeking advice from a healthcare professional can provide clarity and reassurance.
In conclusion, while the absence of morning erections can be concerning, it is essential to consider the broader context of your health and lifestyle. If you have any ongoing worries, particularly regarding phimosis or sexual development, do not hesitate to reach out to a healthcare professional for personalized advice and support.
