How to determine if a skin abrasion has healed and when it is safe to engage in sexual activity?
Hello Doctor, I had a circumcision two months ago, and later I applied steroids due to eczema, which made my skin thinner.
After the circumcision healed completely, I engaged in sexual activity, but the woman was a bit rough, resulting in swelling and skin tearing afterward.
Although I consulted a doctor and it seems to be healing well now, with no pain or other sensations while showering, I am still concerned that engaging in sexual activity again might cause skin tearing.
I would like to ask how I can assess whether my current skin condition is suitable for sexual activity, or how long you would recommend waiting after the skin has healed before resuming sexual activity.
P.S.
I used a condom throughout.

Hello: Normally, if the skin during an erection appears normal, it should be fine for sexual activity.
Generally, it is uncommon for condoms to break.
Wishing you good health.

When it comes to resuming sexual activity after experiencing skin tears, particularly in sensitive areas such as the genital region, it is essential to ensure that the skin has healed adequately to prevent further injury or complications. Here are some guidelines to help you determine if your skin is ready for sexual activity:
1. Visual Inspection: Examine the affected area closely. The skin should appear smooth, without any redness, swelling, or signs of irritation. If there are any scabs, open wounds, or areas that look different from the surrounding skin, it is best to wait until these have healed completely.
2. Absence of Pain or Discomfort: You mentioned that you no longer experience pain or discomfort while bathing, which is a good sign. However, it is important to ensure that you do not feel any discomfort when touching or gently manipulating the area. If you experience any pain, it is advisable to wait longer before resuming sexual activity.
3. Time Since Injury: Generally, it is recommended to wait at least 1-2 weeks after the skin has healed before engaging in sexual activity. This timeframe can vary depending on the severity of the skin tear and individual healing rates. If the skin appears healed but you are still concerned, waiting an additional week may provide extra reassurance.
4. Moisturization and Care: Keeping the area moisturized can help promote healing and prevent further irritation. Consider using a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer or a barrier cream to protect the skin. Avoid using any harsh soaps or products that could irritate the area.
5. Use of Lubricants: When you do resume sexual activity, consider using a water-based lubricant to reduce friction and minimize the risk of further skin tears. This is especially important if you have experienced skin thinning due to steroid use, as it can make the skin more susceptible to injury.
6. Communication with Your Partner: It is crucial to communicate with your partner about your concerns. Let them know about your recent experience and the need to be gentle during sexual activity. This can help prevent any rough movements that could lead to further injury.
7. Consultation with a Healthcare Provider: If you are uncertain about the healing process or have any lingering concerns, it is always a good idea to consult with your healthcare provider. They can provide a professional assessment of your skin's condition and offer personalized advice based on your specific situation.
In summary, before resuming sexual activity after experiencing skin tears, ensure that the area is visually healed, free of pain, and has had sufficient time to recover. Use lubricants to reduce friction, communicate openly with your partner, and consult a healthcare provider if you have any doubts. Taking these precautions can help ensure a safe and comfortable experience.
