the Use of Herbal Supplements for Hormonal Imbalance - Pharmacology

I'm not sure if it's safe to consume..?

Hello, Doctor Gu.
(Thank you for helping me with the topical cream last time, which made me feel more at ease using it.) My condition has really improved a lot; there is no more pus or redness.
However, I have small, granular growths near the genital area that are painless and itchless.
They slowly grow, and applying the cream makes them gradually disappear, but new ones appear in different spots nearby.
Should I continue using the cream?
I feel that my hormonal imbalance is quite severe, as I often experience light bleeding (my menstrual cycle has not arrived yet), or my cycle lasts too long.
For example, I was supposed to have my period on May 5, but I had light bleeding starting on April 17, although it wasn't much.
It wasn't until the end of April that I felt my actual period arrived, as the flow was heavier and included clots, and it didn't stop until May 10.
This situation has been ongoing for about five to six years.
Previously, I would have severe pain about five centimeters to the left of my navel every six months to a year, but I haven't experienced that pain for over a year now.

It's difficult for me to discuss these issues face-to-face with male gynecologists.
On May 10, I thought it was finally over with the bleeding, but on May 13, I went for a Pap smear.
On May 15, I experienced what felt like old blood flowing out, resembling discharge but colored red, which lasted for two to three days.
Gradually, I started experiencing abnormal bleeding again, sometimes more, sometimes less.
Today, May 22, I am still experiencing this...

(Doctor Gu, what should I do to improve my situation? This issue is really troubling me.) I often buy products but don't understand their functions or how to use them, so I just set them aside.
I try to search online, but I can't find any product information.
So, I would appreciate your help in clarifying this for me (thank you).

Hello! I'm very glad to hear from you again! If your condition has improved, you can continue using it with peace of mind.
Regarding your menstrual cycle issue, I recommend consulting a gynecologist for a detailed examination to identify the cause.
If you're hesitant to speak up, many hospitals now have female doctors available.
If that doesn't work, you might consider seeing a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner to focus on improving your constitution.
The health supplements available on the market are purely for wellness purposes and have limited benefits for disease treatment.
The product "Fuli Kang" is meant to supplement nutritional substances in the body and may not be very helpful for your condition.

More Info

Understanding the use of herbal supplements for hormonal imbalance can be quite complex, especially when dealing with specific symptoms and conditions. In your case, it seems you are experiencing a range of issues related to hormonal imbalance, including irregular bleeding and discomfort in the pelvic area. You also mentioned the use of a topical cream that has helped with some symptoms, but you are still facing challenges.

Firstly, let's address the herbal supplement you mentioned: the "婦麗康" capsules, which contain ingredients such as evening primrose oil, royal jelly, lecithin, ginseng, and vitamin E. Each of these components has its own potential benefits:
1. Evening Primrose Oil: This oil is rich in gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), an omega-6 fatty acid that may help alleviate symptoms of hormonal imbalance, particularly in women. It is often used to help with premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and may assist in regulating menstrual cycles.

2. Royal Jelly: This is a substance secreted by honeybees and is believed to have various health benefits, including potential hormonal balancing effects. It is rich in nutrients and may support overall reproductive health.

3. Lecithin: This is a fatty substance found in various foods and is often used to support liver health and fat metabolism. While it may not directly influence hormonal balance, it can contribute to overall health.

4. Ginseng: Known for its adaptogenic properties, ginseng may help the body cope with stress and support hormonal balance. It is often used to enhance energy and reduce fatigue.

5. Vitamin E: This vitamin is an antioxidant that can support reproductive health and may help alleviate some symptoms associated with hormonal fluctuations.

Regarding the use of the topical cream, if it has been effective in reducing inflammation or irritation, it may be worth continuing, but it is essential to monitor your symptoms closely. If the small growths you mentioned are not painful or itchy and seem to resolve with the cream, it may be beneficial to keep using it. However, if you notice any changes in size, color, or if they become painful, it is crucial to consult a healthcare professional for further evaluation.

As for your irregular bleeding and discomfort, it is understandable that you may feel hesitant to discuss these issues with male gynecologists. However, it is vital to seek professional medical advice, as they can provide a thorough examination and appropriate treatment options. Hormonal imbalances can lead to various symptoms, including irregular periods, pelvic pain, and other complications, and a healthcare provider can help determine the underlying causes and recommend suitable treatments.

In terms of dietary supplements, while herbal products can offer support, they should not replace conventional medical treatments, especially for persistent or severe symptoms. It is essential to have a comprehensive approach that includes lifestyle modifications, dietary changes, and possibly medical interventions if necessary.

In conclusion, the herbal supplement you are considering may provide some benefits for your hormonal imbalance, but it is crucial to consult with a healthcare provider for a tailored treatment plan. They can help you navigate your symptoms and ensure that you receive the appropriate care for your specific situation. Remember, your health and well-being are paramount, and seeking help is a vital step toward improvement.
