Yellow urine and cystitis?
Hello, doctor.
I'm not sure why, but I always have frequent urination and feel anxious.
Sometimes I need to urinate several times within an hour, and my urine is always yellow and sometimes bubbly.
I do not have a habit of masturbation, but I occasionally experience nocturnal emissions.
I have seen a urologist who said it was due to my anxiety.
He prescribed me a medication that would make me thirsty, and he mentioned that if I didn't feel better, I should return to see him.
I took the medication, but it really didn't help.
The medication contained some sedatives, but I haven't gone back to see him because I feel embarrassed.
What should I do? Why is my urine always yellow? Even when I drink a lot of water, my urine is still quite yellow.
I have not engaged in sexual intercourse.
I am very thin, about 170 cm tall and weigh around 50 kg.
This condition has been ongoing for more than a year.
I have looked into whether it might be a bladder infection, as some of the symptoms are quite similar to mine.
I'm really quite scared because the thought of a cystoscopy is terrifying.
Doctor, what should I do?
SS, 20~29 year old female. Ask Date: 2005/01/29
Dr. Chen Qiunan reply Urology
Dear SS: Frequent urination can generally be categorized based on the volume of urine produced.
If the volume is high, it may indicate polyuria, and you should consider conditions such as diabetes insipidus.
If the volume is low with each urination, it could be due to urinary tract infection, bladder overactivity, prostate issues, urinary obstruction, tumors, or emotional stress.
Therefore, it is advisable to seek medical attention at a hospital to determine the underlying cause, as identifying the cause is essential for appropriate management.

More Info
Frequent urination and the presence of yellow urine can be concerning symptoms that may indicate underlying health issues. Based on your description, it seems that you are experiencing a combination of frequent urination, anxiety, and changes in urine color, which can be linked to several potential causes.
Firstly, frequent urination can be categorized into two types: polyuria (excessive urine production) and urinary frequency (the need to urinate more often than usual). In your case, it sounds like you may be experiencing urinary frequency, which can be influenced by various factors including anxiety, hydration levels, and potential urinary tract infections (UTIs).
The yellow color of your urine is often a sign of dehydration, as concentrated urine tends to appear darker. Even if you feel you are drinking enough water, factors such as diet, medications, and overall fluid balance can affect urine color. If your urine remains yellow despite adequate hydration, it may be worth investigating further.
Anxiety can also play a significant role in urinary symptoms. Stress and anxiety can lead to increased urgency and frequency of urination. The medication prescribed to you, which includes a sedative, may help alleviate anxiety but may not directly address the urinary symptoms. If the medication has not improved your condition, it is essential to communicate this with your healthcare provider.
Additionally, the presence of bubbles in your urine can indicate proteinuria, which is the presence of excess protein in the urine. This can be a sign of kidney issues or other underlying conditions. It’s important to have this evaluated by a healthcare professional, as it may require further testing.
Given your concerns about potential bladder infections, it is advisable to consider the following steps:
1. Hydration: Ensure you are drinking enough water throughout the day. Aim for at least 8-10 glasses of water daily, adjusting based on your activity level and climate.
2. Urinalysis: A simple urine test can help identify any signs of infection, blood, or abnormal substances in your urine. This can provide valuable information regarding your urinary health.
3. Follow-Up with a Specialist: If your symptoms persist, it may be beneficial to revisit a urologist or a primary care physician. They can perform a thorough evaluation, including a physical examination and possibly imaging studies if needed.
4. Managing Anxiety: Since anxiety appears to be a contributing factor, consider exploring relaxation techniques such as mindfulness, yoga, or cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). These methods can help manage anxiety and may reduce urinary frequency.
5. Dietary Considerations: Certain foods and beverages, such as caffeine and alcohol, can irritate the bladder and increase urinary frequency. Monitoring your intake of these substances may help.
6. Avoiding Self-Diagnosis: While researching symptoms online can be informative, it is crucial to avoid jumping to conclusions about your health. Conditions like bladder infections or other urinary disorders require professional diagnosis and treatment.
In conclusion, while frequent urination and yellow urine can be distressing, they are often manageable with the right approach. It is essential to seek medical advice to rule out any serious conditions and to develop a tailored treatment plan that addresses both your urinary symptoms and any underlying anxiety. Remember, open communication with your healthcare provider is key to finding effective solutions.
