Lymph node
Excuse me, I would like to ask, are lymph nodes generally palpable? I felt some small, soft, round structures near my groin that seem like lymph nodes.
Is this normal? Recently, I came across some reports about lymphatic diseases, and I know that lymph nodes are distributed in the groin area.
I am quite thin, and there is almost no fat in that area, so I can easily feel them when I press.
I am very anxious and unsure if this is a normal phenomenon.
Are lymph nodes typically palpable? Should I see a doctor?

It sounds like what you're describing is a lymph node.
If it remains unchanged and does not increase in size, then there is no cause for concern.
However, if there are any changes or if you are still worried, it would be best to consult a doctor.
Wishing you well!

More Info
Palpable lymph nodes can indeed be a normal finding, especially in certain areas of the body where lymph nodes are more superficial and can be felt upon examination. Lymph nodes are small, bean-shaped structures that are part of the lymphatic system, which plays a crucial role in the immune response. They filter lymph fluid and help the body fight infections.
In healthy individuals, lymph nodes can be palpable, particularly in regions such as the neck, armpits, and groin. The size, consistency, and tenderness of these nodes can provide important clues about their health. Generally, normal lymph nodes are small (usually less than 1 cm), soft, and mobile. They may feel like small, round lumps under the skin.
In your case, you mentioned feeling small, soft, round structures in the groin area. This could very well be normal lymph nodes, especially if they are not tender, fixed, or growing in size. However, there are a few factors to consider:
1. Size and Consistency: Normal lymph nodes are typically less than 1 cm in size. If the nodes you are feeling are larger than this, or if they feel hard or fixed to the surrounding tissue, it may warrant further investigation.
2. Associated Symptoms: If you are experiencing other symptoms such as fever, night sweats, unexplained weight loss, or persistent fatigue, it would be advisable to consult a healthcare professional. These symptoms can sometimes indicate an underlying condition that may need to be addressed.
3. Duration: If the lymph nodes have been palpable for a prolonged period (more than a couple of weeks) without any signs of improvement, it may be worth discussing with a doctor.
4. Location: The groin area does contain lymph nodes, and it is not uncommon to feel them, especially in individuals with less subcutaneous fat.
In summary, while it is normal to feel lymph nodes in certain areas, it is essential to monitor their characteristics. If you have any concerns about the nodes you are feeling, or if they change in size or consistency, it is advisable to consult a healthcare provider. They may perform a physical examination and, if necessary, order imaging studies or blood tests to ensure that everything is functioning normally.
In conclusion, while palpable lymph nodes can be normal, it is always best to err on the side of caution. If you are feeling anxious about your findings, reaching out to a healthcare professional for reassurance and guidance is a prudent step. They can provide you with personalized advice based on a thorough evaluation of your health history and current symptoms.
