Genital issues
Hello, Dr.
Pan! I am already married, but I have some concerns that I hope you can help me with.
1.
I had sexual experience before marriage with my current wife.
Recently, I was infected with what is known as candidiasis, and I have since recovered.
However, I previously noticed a ring of small, flesh-like bumps at the junction of the glans and the shaft of my penis, which have now disappeared.
Is there any cause for concern regarding this?
2.
Sometimes when I retract my foreskin to expose the glans, I often see some white, debris-like substance.
When I gently rub it with my fingers, it comes off easily.
Is this something I should be worried about?
Thank you!

1.
There is a ring of yellowish-white small bumps at the junction of the glans and the penis (known as the coronal sulcus), humorously referred to as "pearls on the coronal sulcus." This is a benign condition that many people have, generally believed to be caused by chronic inflammation or infection, and it is usually not a cause for concern.
2.
After engaging in sexual activity, the penis often shows some signs of tearing, which indicates that your penile frenulum (the band-like structure on the underside of the penis, just below the urethral opening and near the coronal sulcus) may be too short, or that the thrusting during intercourse was too vigorous, possibly compounded by insufficient vaginal lubrication.
It is advisable to consult a urologist for an examination and to be a bit gentler during sexual activity.

More Info
Hello! Thank you for your questions regarding common urological concerns. It's great that you're seeking information to better understand your health. Let’s address your concerns one by one.
1. Regarding the small growths you noticed on the glans (head of the penis): It’s not uncommon for men to notice changes in their genital area, especially after experiencing an infection like a yeast infection (candidiasis). The small growths you described could have been a result of irritation or inflammation from the infection. If they have resolved and you are not experiencing any pain, discharge, or other symptoms, it is likely that they were benign and related to the infection. However, if you notice any new growths, changes in color, or if you experience discomfort, it would be wise to consult a urologist for a thorough examination. Regular self-examinations can help you stay aware of any changes in your genital area.
2. As for the white substance you see when retracting the foreskin: This is often smegma, a combination of dead skin cells, oils, and other bodily fluids that can accumulate under the foreskin. It is a normal occurrence, especially in uncircumcised men. Regular hygiene practices, such as gently retracting the foreskin and cleaning the area with mild soap and water, can help prevent the buildup of smegma. If you notice an unusual odor, persistent irritation, or any discharge that seems abnormal, it’s important to seek medical advice, as these could be signs of an infection or other conditions.
In terms of your overall urological health, here are some additional points to consider:
- Hygiene: Maintaining good genital hygiene is crucial. Regular cleaning can prevent infections and the buildup of smegma. If you are uncircumcised, ensure you clean under the foreskin regularly.
- Sexual Health: Since you mentioned having had a yeast infection, it’s important to practice safe sex to reduce the risk of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Using condoms can help protect against many STIs, including those that can cause similar symptoms.
- Regular Check-ups: Regular visits to a urologist can help monitor your urological health, especially if you have a history of infections or other concerns. Early detection and treatment of any issues can prevent complications.
- Lifestyle Factors: Factors such as diet, exercise, and hydration can impact your urological health. A balanced diet, regular physical activity, and adequate hydration can contribute to overall well-being.
- Communication with Your Partner: If you have concerns about your sexual health or any symptoms you are experiencing, it’s important to communicate openly with your partner. This can help both of you understand any potential risks and take appropriate measures.
In conclusion, while the symptoms you described are common and often benign, staying vigilant about your health is important. If you have any persistent symptoms or new concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out to a healthcare professional for personalized advice and treatment. Your health is paramount, and being proactive is the best approach. Thank you for your questions, and I wish you good health!
