Weight loss issues~~
Due to my continuous weight gain (currently 155 cm / 105 kg), I have normal meals, but I tend to eat more for dinner (before 8 PM).
I exercise very little, and after each meal, I have a bowel movement within half an hour, at least two to three times a day.
Sometimes it's loose stools, and other times it's normal.
I would like to know which specialist I should see, as I have been unsure until last week when I visited a "Metabolism Clinic." The doctor mentioned that obesity is not related to gastrointestinal issues and suggested I get blood tests for thyroid function, but I still feel confused and think that seeing the doctor didn't help much.
Could you please advise me on how to ask the doctor so that they understand my concerns? Thank you.

Obesity can be addressed by a metabolic specialist.
Most cases of obesity are classified as simple obesity, while a minority may be caused by other underlying conditions.
The physician will assess your symptoms to determine whether further tests are necessary to rule out other diseases.
Currently, the symptoms are non-specific and do not strongly indicate obesity-related conditions.
If no other diseases are present, the focus will be on treating obesity.

When it comes to understanding weight gain and determining the appropriate specialist to consult, it's essential to consider various factors that contribute to weight management. Given your height of 155 cm and weight of 105 kg, it's understandable that you're seeking clarity on your situation and the best course of action.
Firstly, it's important to recognize that weight gain can be influenced by a multitude of factors, including diet, physical activity, metabolic rate, hormonal balance, and even psychological aspects. Since you've mentioned that you have a regular meal pattern but tend to eat more during dinner and engage in minimal physical activity, these could be significant contributors to your weight gain.
Based on your description, it seems that you have already consulted a metabolic specialist who suggested checking your thyroid function through blood tests. This is a good step, as thyroid disorders can significantly impact metabolism and weight. However, if you feel that your concerns were not adequately addressed, it may be beneficial to seek a second opinion or consult a different specialist.
Here are some recommendations on which specialists to consider and how to approach your consultations:
1. Primary Care Physician (PCP): Your first point of contact should be your primary care physician. They can conduct a comprehensive evaluation of your health, including a physical examination and a review of your medical history. They can also order necessary tests, such as blood work to check for thyroid function, insulin levels, and other metabolic markers.
2. Endocrinologist: If your PCP suspects a hormonal imbalance, they may refer you to an endocrinologist. This specialist focuses on hormonal issues, including thyroid disorders, adrenal gland function, and other endocrine-related conditions that could contribute to weight gain.
3. Gastroenterologist: Given your symptoms of frequent bowel movements and variations in stool consistency, consulting a gastroenterologist may also be beneficial. They can evaluate your digestive health and determine if there are any underlying gastrointestinal issues that could be affecting your weight and overall health.
4. Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist: A registered dietitian can provide personalized dietary advice tailored to your lifestyle and health goals. They can help you develop a balanced meal plan that addresses your eating habits, particularly your tendency to eat more at dinner. They can also assist in understanding portion sizes and the nutritional quality of your meals.
5. Behavioral Health Specialist: If you suspect that emotional or psychological factors may be contributing to your eating habits and weight gain, consulting a psychologist or counselor specializing in weight management could be beneficial. They can help you explore any underlying issues related to food, body image, and emotional eating.
When you visit these specialists, it's crucial to communicate your concerns clearly. Here are some tips on how to frame your questions:
- Describe Your Symptoms: Clearly explain your weight gain, eating habits, and any gastrointestinal symptoms you experience, such as the frequency and consistency of your bowel movements.
- Express Your Concerns: Let the doctor know that you are worried about your weight gain and how it affects your overall health. Mention any family history of obesity or metabolic disorders.
- Ask Specific Questions: Inquire about potential underlying causes of your weight gain, such as hormonal imbalances or digestive issues. Ask what tests might be necessary and what the next steps would be based on the results.
- Seek Guidance on Lifestyle Changes: Ask for recommendations on dietary changes, physical activity, and any resources for support, such as nutrition counseling or weight management programs.
In conclusion, understanding weight gain requires a comprehensive approach that considers various health aspects. By consulting the right specialists and clearly communicating your concerns, you can gain valuable insights into your health and develop an effective plan for managing your weight. Remember, weight management is a journey that often requires a multi-faceted approach, including medical, nutritional, and psychological support.
