Penile issues?
I have noticed that my penis curves downward when erect, and the glans also arches downward.
The degree of curvature is even below the horizontal line.
While I can successfully penetrate and ejaculate during intercourse with my partner, she has mentioned that my downward-curving penis does not provide her with pleasure and sometimes even causes her pain.
I am troubled by the limitations this curvature imposes on our sexual positions.
Naturally, I would prefer to have a straight, upward-curving penis, but I am unsure if I need corrective treatment.
I also do not know which medical specialty to consult or how to communicate my concerns to the doctor.
Additionally, if surgery is necessary, what methods are available, and how long would I need to stay in the hospital before being discharged? I understand that I have posed many questions, but I hope the physician can provide answers to alleviate my concerns.
(If necessary, I can email photos of the curvature for the doctor's assessment.)

Dr. Xu Weikai reply Urology
Dear Concerned Chick,
Penile curvature surgery is generally not a very complicated procedure.
It is usually recommended to take photographs with a camera beforehand, and then bring the photos or digital images to the consultation, as this makes diagnosis easier.
To find a physician, you can look for nearby hospitals with a urology department.
Typically, after reviewing actual erection photographs, a more objective diagnosis can be made.
Sincerely,
Dr.

Understanding penile curvature, particularly when it causes discomfort or dissatisfaction during sexual activity, is an important issue that many men face. The condition you describe, where the penis curves downward during an erection, can be attributed to several potential causes, and it’s essential to approach this matter with sensitivity and care.
One of the most common causes of penile curvature is a condition known as Peyronie's disease. This condition occurs when fibrous scar tissue develops inside the penis, leading to a curvature that can be painful and may interfere with sexual function. The curvature can vary in severity and direction, and in some cases, it may also be accompanied by erectile dysfunction or pain during erections.
In your case, since the curvature is causing discomfort for both you and your partner, it is advisable to seek medical attention. The first step is to consult a urologist, a specialist in male reproductive health. When you visit the urologist, you can explain your symptoms clearly. You might say something like, "I have noticed that my penis curves downward during an erection, which is causing discomfort for my partner and limiting our sexual positions. I would like to understand the underlying cause and discuss potential treatment options."
During your consultation, the doctor will likely perform a physical examination and may ask about your medical history, including any previous injuries, surgeries, or conditions that could contribute to the curvature. Imaging tests, such as an ultrasound, may also be used to assess the structure of the penis and the presence of any scar tissue.
Treatment options for penile curvature depend on the severity of the condition and the degree to which it affects your quality of life. If the curvature is mild and not causing significant issues, the doctor may recommend a conservative approach, which could include:
1. Observation: Monitoring the condition over time, especially if it is not causing pain or significant functional problems.
2. Medications: Some medications may help reduce pain or inflammation associated with Peyronie's disease, although their effectiveness can vary.
3. Penile traction therapy: This involves using a device to gently stretch the penis over time, which may help reduce curvature.
4. Injections: In some cases, injections of medications directly into the scar tissue may help reduce curvature.
5. Surgery: If the curvature is severe and significantly impacts sexual function, surgical options may be considered. Surgical procedures can involve removing the scar tissue or placing a graft to straighten the penis. The specifics of the surgery, including recovery time and hospitalization, will depend on the technique used and your overall health.
Regarding your concerns about hospitalization, many surgical procedures for penile curvature can be performed on an outpatient basis, meaning you may not need to stay overnight in the hospital. However, this will depend on the specific procedure and your individual circumstances.
It’s important to have an open and honest discussion with your urologist about your concerns, treatment options, and any potential risks associated with surgery. They can provide you with detailed information tailored to your situation.
In conclusion, while penile curvature can be a source of concern, there are various treatment options available. Seeking the advice of a urologist will help you understand the underlying causes and determine the best course of action to improve your sexual health and overall well-being. Remember, you are not alone in this, and many men experience similar issues.
