I would like to ask the doctor again..?
Hello Dr.
Hsu,
Thank you for your kind response to my previous questions.
I apologize for bothering you again.
My boyfriend has developed two additional similar sores on the coronal sulcus, along with a larger sore measuring less than 1 cm, in addition to the previous injury on his foreskin.
We have followed your advice and consulted a doctor.
The doctor asked about any abnormal sexual activity and conducted blood tests, but did not provide much detail about the condition.
Since it was my boyfriend's first visit to a urologist, he felt hesitant to ask further questions, which has left us a bit worried.
What is the purpose of the blood tests? My boyfriend is currently applying medication and taking oral medication, and the sores have shown some improvement.
However, the foreskin covering the coronal sulcus has become red and swollen.
Is this normal?
Here are the medications currently being used: Tetracycline eye ointment (topical) and Trimerin 400 mg (oral).
We look forward to your guidance.
Thank you very much.
Sincerely,
Xiao Yue

Dr. Xu Weikai reply Urology
Xiao Yue: Hello, I think blood tests are generally conducted to check for certain infectious diseases, which may include syphilis, herpes, etc.
As for the redness and swelling of the foreskin, it could be a reaction to medication, irritation from the medication, or an allergic response.
If it improves, you can reduce the frequency of local applications, or if it has already healed, you might consider temporarily stopping the medication to see if the redness and swelling resolve.
If you are still concerned, it would be best to return for an earlier consultation with the specialist, as they have already addressed most of the original cause.
Sincerely, Dr.
Hsu Wei-Kai, Director of Urology, Taitung Hospital, Department of Health, Executive Yuan.

More Info
Dear 小月,
Thank you for reaching out with your concerns regarding your boyfriend's urological issues. It’s understandable to feel anxious when dealing with health matters, especially when it involves sensitive areas like the genital region. I will do my best to provide you with insights based on the information you've shared.
From what you've described, your boyfriend has developed multiple wounds on the coronal sulcus (the area just behind the glans of the penis), which has now formed a larger wound of less than 1 cm. It’s good to hear that he has already consulted a doctor and undergone blood tests. Typically, blood tests in such scenarios can be used to check for various infections, including sexually transmitted infections (STIs), as well as to assess overall health and any underlying conditions that might contribute to skin issues.
The use of Tetracycline eye ointment and Trimerin (which is likely a form of antibiotic) suggests that the doctor is treating the wounds with an antibacterial approach. Tetracycline is effective against a range of bacterial infections, and its application may help in preventing secondary infections in the wounds. Trimerin, being an antibiotic, will also assist in managing any systemic infection that might be present.
Regarding the redness and swelling of the foreskin (the covering over the glans), this can be a common reaction, especially if there is irritation from the wounds or the medications being applied. However, it’s crucial to monitor this closely. If the redness and swelling persist or worsen, or if your boyfriend experiences increased pain, discharge, or fever, it would be advisable to return to the doctor for further evaluation. In some cases, inflammation can occur due to an allergic reaction to topical medications or due to irritation from friction, especially if the area is not kept clean or dry.
It’s also important for your boyfriend to maintain good hygiene in the area. He should gently clean the area with mild soap and water, ensuring that he dries it thoroughly afterward. Avoiding tight clothing and allowing the area to breathe can also help reduce irritation.
If the wounds are healing and there is improvement, that is a positive sign. However, it’s essential to follow up with the healthcare provider if there are any concerns or if the condition does not improve as expected. Open communication with the doctor is vital; if your boyfriend feels uncomfortable asking questions during appointments, it might help to prepare a list of questions beforehand or to bring someone along for support.
In summary, while the treatment seems to be on the right track, it’s essential to keep an eye on the symptoms and maintain open communication with healthcare providers. If there are any signs of infection or if the condition does not improve, seeking further medical advice is crucial.
I hope this information helps alleviate some of your concerns. Please take care, and I wish your boyfriend a swift recovery.
Best regards,
