Small nodules of sarcoma found on the genital area?
Hello, doctor.
I'm not sure whether to ask a urologist or a dermatologist about this issue.
I have several small growths on my genital area.
The size of these growths varies; some are slightly larger than sesame seeds, while others are slightly smaller.
The color of the growths appears to be a deep purple.
They are concentrated at the junction of the penis and the scrotum.
There are no growths directly beneath the penis, but there are growths on both sides and above the junction of the penis and scrotum.
It seems to be spreading.
About two years ago, I noticed only one growth at the junction of the penis and scrotum, but I discovered more growths three to four months ago.
When there were fewer growths, I often experienced itching at the junction of the penis and scrotum, as well as on both sides of the scrotum.
Sometimes, I would scratch until the skin broke due to the intense itching.
Later, I applied a cream called "Amorolfin," and the itching stopped.
Is this itching related to the growths? May I ask: 1.
Should I consult a urologist or a dermatologist? 2.
What could this condition be? 3.
Could it be a sexually transmitted infection? (I have not engaged in sexual activity with anyone for almost two years.)

Dr. Xu Li'an reply Family Medicine
Hello Mr.
CK, please visit a dermatologist.
I recommend you go to Hualien Hospital to see Dr.
Jiang Zhe'en in the dermatology department.
Regarding skin issues, we usually need to see them in person, as even photos cannot provide a definitive diagnosis, let alone a written description.
Therefore, I can only answer your first question.
For your second and third questions, please consult a dermatologist directly during your outpatient visit.
Best regards, Xu Li'an 9502081536, Hualien Family Medicine Department.

More Info
When it comes to small growths on the genitals, it is essential to approach the situation with caution and seek professional medical advice. Based on your description, it seems you are experiencing multiple small growths, or "fleshy lumps," in the area where the penis and scrotum meet. These growths vary in size and color, and you have noted an increase in their number over the past few months. Additionally, you mentioned experiencing itching in the same area, which has improved with the use of a topical ointment.
1. Which Specialist to Consult?
Given the nature of your symptoms, it would be advisable to consult a urologist. Urologists specialize in the urinary tract and male reproductive system, making them well-equipped to evaluate and diagnose conditions related to the genital area. While dermatologists also deal with skin-related issues, the specific location and nature of your growths warrant a visit to a urologist first. They can perform a thorough examination and determine if a referral to a dermatologist is necessary.
2. What Could This Condition Be?
The growths you are describing could be several things. Common possibilities include:
- Pearly Penile Papules: These are small, benign growths that are often found around the corona of the penis. They are harmless and do not require treatment.
- Sebaceous Cysts: These are small lumps that can occur when sebaceous glands become blocked. They are generally harmless but can become inflamed or infected.
- Genital Warts: Caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), these can appear as small, flesh-colored or slightly darker bumps. They can be itchy and may spread through sexual contact.
- Folliculitis: This is an inflammation of hair follicles that can lead to small red bumps or pustules, often itchy.
3. Could This Be a Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI)?
While you mentioned that you have not engaged in sexual activity for nearly two years, it is still possible for certain conditions, such as genital warts or herpes, to remain dormant and become symptomatic later. However, without a thorough examination, it is impossible to definitively diagnose the condition. It is crucial to communicate your sexual history and any other symptoms to your healthcare provider, as this information will aid in their assessment.
The itching you experienced could indeed be related to the growths, especially if they are causing irritation or if there is an underlying infection. The fact that the itching subsided with the use of a topical ointment suggests that there may have been some inflammatory component involved.
In conclusion, it is essential to seek medical attention promptly. A urologist will be able to provide a proper diagnosis and recommend appropriate treatment options based on their findings. Early intervention is key, especially if the growths are symptomatic or if there is any concern regarding potential infections. Remember, it is always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to changes in your body, particularly in sensitive areas.
