Idiopathic neuropathic pain
Hello doctor, since I started drinking the commercially available raspberry detox drink in March 2023, I have been experiencing numbness in my hands and stiffness and pain in my neck, which has persisted until now.
I have long-term pain on the right side that radiates to my head.
My shoulder muscles and nerves feel hot and then cold and tremble; sometimes I experience cold sweats and overall weakness.
When I drink coffee and green tea, I feel palpitations, numbness in my hands, and an increased heart rate.
By the end of April this year, I also started experiencing pain in my left shoulder and neck.

Unexplained nerve pain can be a complex and frustrating condition to deal with, especially when the symptoms are not easily attributable to a specific cause. Based on your description, it seems that you have been experiencing a range of symptoms, including stiffness and pain in the neck and shoulders, radiating pain to the right side of your body, and episodes of cold sweats and weakness. Additionally, you mentioned that consuming caffeinated beverages like coffee and green tea exacerbates your symptoms, leading to palpitations and increased heart rate.
First and foremost, it is essential to understand that nerve pain, or neuropathic pain, can arise from various underlying issues, including nerve compression, inflammation, or even systemic conditions. In your case, the onset of symptoms following the consumption of a specific dietary supplement raises the possibility of an adverse reaction or sensitivity to one of its components. It is crucial to consider that dietary supplements are not always regulated as strictly as pharmaceuticals, and they can sometimes lead to unexpected side effects.
Given the complexity of your symptoms, a thorough evaluation by a healthcare professional is necessary. Here are some steps you might consider:
1. Consult a Neurologist: Since your symptoms involve nerve pain and potential neurological issues, seeing a neurologist would be beneficial. They can perform a comprehensive neurological examination and may recommend imaging studies, such as MRI or CT scans, to rule out any structural abnormalities or nerve compression.
2. Pain Management: Depending on the findings, your doctor may suggest various pain management strategies. Medications like gabapentin (Neurontin) or pregabalin (Lyrica) are commonly used for neuropathic pain and may provide relief. These medications work by modulating the way nerves send pain signals to the brain.
3. Physical Therapy: Engaging in physical therapy can help improve mobility, strengthen muscles, and alleviate pain. A physical therapist can design a personalized exercise program that focuses on stretching and strengthening the neck and shoulder muscles, which may help relieve some of the tension and discomfort.
4. Lifestyle Modifications: Since you noted that caffeine exacerbates your symptoms, it may be wise to reduce or eliminate caffeine from your diet. Additionally, maintaining a balanced diet, staying hydrated, and managing stress through relaxation techniques such as yoga or meditation can also be beneficial.
5. Alternative Therapies: Some individuals find relief from nerve pain through alternative therapies such as acupuncture, chiropractic care, or massage therapy. While the evidence for these treatments can vary, they may provide symptomatic relief for some patients.
6. Monitoring and Follow-Up: Keep a detailed diary of your symptoms, including when they occur, their intensity, and any potential triggers. This information can be invaluable for your healthcare provider in determining the best course of action.
7. Consider Psychological Factors: Chronic pain can often be exacerbated by psychological factors such as anxiety or depression. If you find that your pain is affecting your mental health, discussing this with a mental health professional may also be beneficial.
In summary, unexplained nerve pain can stem from various causes, and a multidisciplinary approach is often necessary for effective management. It is crucial to work closely with healthcare professionals to identify the underlying issues and develop a tailored treatment plan that addresses both the physical and psychological aspects of your condition. Remember, you are not alone in this journey, and seeking help is the first step toward finding relief.
