Am I Pregnant? Risks of Intimate Touch and Pregnancy - Obstetrics and Gynecology

Are you worried about the possibility of becoming pregnant?

My boyfriend and I engage in outercourse and have never had penetrative intercourse.
My last menstrual period started on July 11, and I usually have a regular cycle of 28 days (with previous cycles on March 21, April 19, May 16, June 13, and July 11).
On July 28, during our outercourse, my boyfriend ejaculated, but I did not come into contact with it.
Afterward, we took a shower together, and while we were both soapy, I touched his genitals for less than a minute, and he was only partially erect.
Even if there were sperm in the secretions, they should be killed by the soap, right? I remember that after touching his genitals, I did not touch myself.
Even if I accidentally did, would that lead to pregnancy?
On July 31, we also engaged in outercourse, and I believe I did come into contact with some semen.
However, it was the initial ejaculation, which was still clear and not milky, and it was on the area between my thumb and index finger, in a very small amount.
I wiped it off with tissue, and then about 5-10 minutes later, I went to the bathroom, using the same hand to clean myself while being careful not to touch anything else.

Now it is August 11, and my period was supposed to arrive on August 7.
Before my period, I usually experience breast tenderness and lower abdominal pain.
Currently, I have breast tenderness and occasional lower abdominal pain, but my period has not started yet.
Am I at risk of pregnancy? Occasionally, we have also had our genitals touch through clothing, but that was through four layers of clothing.
Is it unlikely that I could become pregnant from that? If pregnancy could occur from just this, wouldn’t that be a bit unfair, considering we have never had penetrative intercourse? If it were that easy, then many people would be getting pregnant all the time! A few days ago, I even had a dream that I was pregnant, and it really scared me!

As long as your period is late, you can simply take a urine test to determine if you are pregnant without overthinking it.

When it comes to the question of whether you might be pregnant after engaging in intimate touch with your boyfriend, it's important to understand the mechanics of conception and the risks involved in such activities. Based on the details you've provided, it seems that you and your boyfriend have engaged in activities that are generally considered low-risk for pregnancy, but let's break this down further.

Firstly, pregnancy occurs when sperm fertilizes an egg. This typically requires direct ejaculation into the vagina or very close proximity to the vaginal opening. In your case, you mentioned that there was no direct penetration, and while your boyfriend did ejaculate, you did not come into direct contact with the semen. The concern arises when there is any possibility of sperm being transferred to the vaginal area, even indirectly.

You also mentioned that after your boyfriend ejaculated, you both washed up, which would likely reduce the viability of any sperm that might have been present on your skin. Sperm can survive outside the body for a short period, but they are highly sensitive to environmental factors such as soap, which can kill them. The likelihood of becoming pregnant from touching his genital area, especially after washing, is extremely low.

Regarding your menstrual cycle, you noted that your period was due on August 7th, and you are experiencing symptoms like breast tenderness and lower abdominal pain, which are common premenstrual symptoms. The fact that your period has not yet arrived could be due to a variety of factors, including stress, hormonal fluctuations, or other physiological changes. It's also worth noting that sometimes menstrual cycles can be irregular, even for those who typically have a regular cycle.

If you are concerned about the possibility of pregnancy, the best course of action would be to take a home pregnancy test. These tests are designed to detect the hormone hCG, which is produced during pregnancy, and they can provide you with a reliable answer. If the test is positive, or if you continue to have concerns, it would be advisable to consult with a healthcare provider for further evaluation and guidance.

In summary, while the activities you described carry a very low risk of pregnancy, it is not entirely impossible, especially if there was any transfer of sperm to the vaginal area. However, given the precautions you took and the timing in relation to your menstrual cycle, it seems unlikely. If you are feeling anxious about the situation, taking a pregnancy test can provide clarity and peace of mind. Remember, it's always best to consult with a healthcare professional if you have any concerns about your reproductive health or if you experience significant changes in your menstrual cycle.
