Chicken skin grafting on the penis?
I have a question.
When my penis gets erect, there are small white bumps on the skin that feel like chicken skin.
Even when it's not erect, there are still these bumps.
Is this a problem? I'm worried it might be a sexually transmitted infection.
Should I get it checked?

Dear, your issue is benign ectopic sebaceous gland hyperplasia, also known as Fordyce's spots.
You don't need to worry about it.

When it comes to skin bumps on the penis, it's understandable to feel concerned, especially if they resemble white bumps or "chicken skin." These bumps can be caused by a variety of factors, and while some may be harmless, others could indicate an underlying condition that requires attention.
Firstly, it's important to differentiate between common benign conditions and those that may require medical evaluation. One common cause of small white bumps on the penis is pearly penile papules, which are harmless and typically do not require treatment. These are small, dome-shaped bumps that usually appear around the corona of the glans (the head of the penis) and are completely normal anatomical variations.
Another possibility is folliculitis, which is inflammation of the hair follicles that can lead to small, red, or white bumps. This condition can occur due to irritation, infection, or blockage of the hair follicles. It is generally not serious and can often be managed with good hygiene and topical treatments.
However, if the bumps are accompanied by other symptoms such as itching, pain, or discharge, or if they change in appearance, it may be a sign of a sexually transmitted infection (STI) or another dermatological condition. For instance, genital warts caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV) can appear as small, flesh-colored or white bumps and may require medical treatment.
Given your concerns about potential STIs, it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional for a thorough examination. They can provide an accurate diagnosis based on your symptoms and medical history. If necessary, they may recommend tests to rule out STIs or other conditions.
In terms of self-care, maintaining good hygiene is crucial. Gently wash the area with mild soap and water, and avoid using harsh products that could irritate the skin. If you notice any changes in the bumps or if they become painful, it is best to seek medical advice promptly.
In summary, while many skin bumps on the penis can be benign, it is essential to monitor their characteristics and any accompanying symptoms. If you have concerns about STIs or if the bumps persist or worsen, a visit to a healthcare provider is warranted. They can offer reassurance, appropriate treatment options, and guidance on how to maintain genital skin health. Remember, early intervention is key to addressing any potential issues effectively.
