Fenugreek & White High Pearl
Is it possible that consuming fenugreek and white cohosh could cause heatiness? Since I started taking them, I've had a persistent sore throat, and even taking a lot of vitamin C throughout the day hasn't helped.
In the past, my sore throat would improve after taking vitamin C, but since I began using breast enhancement supplements, my throat has been continuously sore and hasn't improved.
Could the ingredients in the breast enhancement supplements be a contributing factor?

Dr. Chen Yuemei reply Pharmacology
Hello: Fenugreek has health benefits such as lowering blood sugar and cholesterol levels.
The main component of white clover contains isoflavones, including miroestrol and deoxymiroestrol, which are phytoestrogens that can promote blood circulation in the breasts and stimulate mammary gland development, thereby increasing the synthesis of fibroblasts and collagen in the breast tissue.
However, dietary supplements containing isoflavones are mostly used to alleviate menopausal symptoms.
Although they are plant-based estrogens, research on their safety regarding potential effects on the existing endocrine mechanisms is still limited.
Since individual responses can vary due to different body constitutions, it is recommended to discontinue use if any adverse symptoms occur.

More Info
Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum) and Black Cohosh (Actaea racemosa) are herbal supplements commonly used for various health benefits, including hormonal balance and breast enhancement. However, they can also have side effects, including throat irritation or soreness.
Fenugreek is known for its anti-inflammatory properties, but it can also cause allergic reactions in some individuals. Symptoms of an allergic reaction may include throat irritation, swelling, or pain. Additionally, fenugreek has a high mucilage content, which can sometimes lead to a sensation of dryness or irritation in the throat, especially if consumed in large quantities or without adequate hydration.
Black Cohosh, on the other hand, is often used to alleviate menopausal symptoms, but it can also cause gastrointestinal disturbances and allergic reactions. Some users report throat discomfort or irritation after taking Black Cohosh, which may be due to the herb's potential to cause gastrointestinal upset or its interaction with other medications or supplements.
The combination of these two herbs, especially when taken in high doses or alongside other supplements like vitamin C, can lead to increased irritation in the throat. It's important to consider that vitamin C, while generally beneficial for immune function, can also be acidic and may irritate the throat if taken in excessive amounts or if the throat is already sensitive.
If you are experiencing persistent sore throat after starting these supplements, it is advisable to stop taking them and consult with a healthcare professional. They can help determine whether the throat irritation is indeed related to the supplements or if there may be another underlying cause. It’s also essential to discuss any other medications or supplements you are taking, as interactions can sometimes lead to unexpected side effects.
In summary, while Fenugreek and Black Cohosh can provide health benefits, they may also cause throat irritation in some individuals. If you are experiencing persistent symptoms, it is crucial to seek medical advice to ensure that you are using these supplements safely and effectively. Additionally, maintaining proper hydration and monitoring your body's response to these herbs can help mitigate potential side effects.
