Red stretch marks on the abdomen during pregnancy?
Two weeks ago, I visited the clinic for a suspected ectopic pregnancy, and a few days later, I experienced a spontaneous miscarriage.
During that time, I did not take any supplements.
Two weeks later (yesterday), after having sesame oil chicken for lunch, I noticed that my chest, abdominal circumference, and the inner thighs, especially the stretch marks on my abdomen, became particularly red.
The redness persisted into the next day but was not itchy.
Could the alcohol in the sesame oil chicken be causing this discomfort, or is it an allergic reaction? Will this phenomenon resolve on its own?

Dr. Lü Lizheng reply Obstetrics and Gynecology
Ms.
Chen: Hello, based on your description, it is likely unrelated to pregnancy and may be an allergic reaction.
There is a high possibility that it will resolve on its own.
If it does not improve over time, I recommend consulting a dermatologist.
Wishing you safety and health.
Sincerely, Dr.
Lu Li-Cheng, Attending Physician, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Taoyuan Hospital, Ministry of Health and Welfare.

More Info
The redness of stretch marks after consuming sesame oil chicken, especially following a recent miscarriage, raises several important considerations regarding skin reactions and potential underlying causes. Based on the information provided, it seems that the redness observed in the stretch marks is unlikely to be directly related to the consumption of sesame oil chicken or the alcohol content that may have been present in the dish.
Firstly, stretch marks, or striae, are a common skin condition that occurs when the skin is stretched rapidly due to factors such as pregnancy, weight gain, or hormonal changes. They can appear as red, purple, or white streaks on the skin, and their color can change over time. The redness you are experiencing may be a result of the skin's natural response to stretching or irritation rather than a direct reaction to the food consumed.
In your case, the recent miscarriage and the hormonal fluctuations associated with it could also contribute to changes in the skin's appearance. After a miscarriage, the body undergoes various physical and hormonal adjustments, which may lead to increased sensitivity or changes in skin conditions. This could explain why the stretch marks have become more pronounced and redder.
Regarding the possibility of an allergic reaction, it is important to note that allergic responses typically present with additional symptoms such as itching, swelling, or hives. Since you mentioned that the redness is not accompanied by itching, it is less likely that this is an allergic reaction to the sesame oil chicken. However, if you notice any additional symptoms or if the redness persists or worsens, it would be advisable to consult a dermatologist for further evaluation.
As for the alcohol content in sesame oil chicken, cooking usually reduces the alcohol content significantly. If the alcohol was cooked off completely, it would not contribute to any caloric intake or adverse effects. However, if you have concerns about alcohol sensitivity or any other ingredients in the dish, it may be worth discussing these with a healthcare professional.
In terms of whether the redness will resolve on its own, it is quite possible. Skin reactions can often be transient and may improve with time as the skin heals and adjusts. Keeping the affected area moisturized and avoiding any potential irritants can help promote healing. If the redness persists for an extended period or if you develop any new symptoms, seeking medical advice would be prudent.
In summary, the redness of your stretch marks after eating sesame oil chicken is likely related to hormonal changes following your recent miscarriage rather than a direct reaction to the food. It is important to monitor the situation and consult a healthcare provider if you have any concerns or if the symptoms do not improve. Taking care of your skin and being mindful of any changes in your body during this time is essential for your overall well-being.
