Methods for Managing Mental Stress

Dear Doctor,
1.
I am under a lot of work pressure, but my position is quite low and my salary is not high.
I have to solve various detailed problems every day, and I feel mentally exhausted.
You mentioned that work pressure is related to methods and techniques.
I have reflected on this; if my work methods are fixed but I have to handle a workload equivalent to twelve hours within an eight-hour workday, is this my problem or the company's? The boss may not understand the need for overtime! How can I resolve this issue? I am under tension for more than twelve hours a day, and I appear very tired and mentally unwell.
How can I tackle this major problem? How can I work efficiently and also earn a raise from my boss? Even after work, I continue to think about company matters until all my issues are resolved.
Am I too slow? The pace of the company is very fast, making it difficult for me to absorb and digest the information.
I wonder if there is a better way for a small assistant like me to work more smoothly? I feel that every company is different, and regardless of who you are, the boss expects you to solve work-related problems on your own.
I think this is unrelated to work experience, right? I face new and different problems every day!
2.
Please provide me with methods and suggestions for reference; I believe they will help alleviate my stress.
3.
Thank you for your response, and I wish you good health and all the best!

Hello, you seem to be a serious and responsible person.
I believe that due to your efforts, you have made significant contributions to the company and your colleagues.
I think if there are close colleagues in the company, discussing and sharing experiences might help in managing stress, as it allows you to see if others have effective methods for coping with similar pressures.
It can be challenging to not think about work after hours, so it's important to arrange activities and leisure that you enjoy and immerse yourself in them.
This way, you naturally won't dwell on work-related matters.
Taking timely breaks and relaxing can also help you feel more energized and creative when you return to work.
I believe that at work, it's about doing your best; perhaps you can't achieve a perfect score in everything, but a score of sixty is passing, and seventy or eighty is quite good.
Wishing you all the best!

Managing work-related stress effectively is crucial for maintaining both mental health and productivity. Your situation, where you feel overwhelmed by the demands of your job, is not uncommon, especially in fast-paced work environments. Here are some strategies that can help you manage stress and enhance your productivity:

1. Identify Stressors
Begin by identifying the specific sources of your stress. Is it the volume of work, the complexity of tasks, or perhaps the lack of support? Keeping a journal can help you track when you feel most stressed and what triggers those feelings. This awareness is the first step in addressing the issues.

2. Prioritize and Organize Tasks
Once you’ve identified your stressors, prioritize your tasks. Use techniques like the Eisenhower Matrix to distinguish between what is urgent and important. Break down larger projects into smaller, manageable tasks, and set realistic deadlines for each. This can help reduce feelings of being overwhelmed.

3. Set Boundaries
It’s essential to set boundaries regarding your work hours. If you find yourself working beyond your scheduled hours, try to establish a cut-off time. Communicate this to your supervisor if necessary. It’s important to protect your personal time to recharge.

4. Practice Time Management Techniques
Implement time management strategies such as the Pomodoro Technique, where you work for 25 minutes and then take a 5-minute break. This can enhance focus and prevent burnout. Additionally, consider using tools like calendars or task management apps to keep track of deadlines and appointments.

5. Develop Coping Mechanisms
Incorporate stress-relief techniques into your daily routine. This could include mindfulness practices, such as meditation or deep-breathing exercises, which can help calm your mind. Regular physical activity is also beneficial; even a short walk during breaks can significantly reduce stress levels.

6. Seek Support
Don’t hesitate to reach out for support. This could be from colleagues, friends, or family. Sometimes, just talking about your stress can provide relief and new perspectives. If the stress becomes unmanageable, consider seeking professional help from a counselor or therapist.

7. Communicate with Your Supervisor
If you feel comfortable, discuss your workload with your supervisor. They may not be aware of the extent of your responsibilities. A candid conversation can lead to adjustments in your workload or additional support, which can alleviate some of your stress.

8. Focus on What You Can Control
It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by factors outside your control. Focus on what you can influence, such as your reactions and your work habits. This shift in mindset can empower you and reduce feelings of helplessness.

9. Reward Yourself
After completing tasks or reaching milestones, reward yourself. This could be as simple as taking a break, enjoying a favorite snack, or engaging in a hobby. Recognizing your achievements, no matter how small, can boost your morale and motivation.

10. Consider Long-Term Solutions
If your work environment consistently leads to stress, it may be worth considering whether this job is the right fit for you. Sometimes, a change in position or even a new job can provide the relief you need. Evaluate your career goals and whether your current role aligns with them.

Conclusion
Managing work-related stress is a multifaceted process that requires self-awareness, effective communication, and proactive strategies. By implementing these techniques, you can create a more manageable work environment and improve your overall well-being. Remember, it’s essential to take care of your mental health, as it directly impacts your productivity and job satisfaction. If you continue to struggle, seeking professional help can provide additional support and guidance tailored to your specific situation.
