Frequent urination inquiry?
Hello doctor, I have a question.
I haven't masturbated for about three days, and last night I did, but I held back from ejaculating.
I felt a bit uncomfortable and after sleeping for about an hour, I really needed to urinate.
After I urinated, just a few minutes later, I felt the urge to urinate again, but it felt like something was there and I couldn't fully urinate.
Eventually, I masturbated again and ejaculated, which relieved the discomfort.
Is this normal? Thank you.
I usually don't experience frequent urination at night, only this time.

HJ: Sometimes the side effects mentioned above can be due to the autonomic nervous system's influence.
However, at times, there may be other underlying issues.

Frequent urination after sexual activity can be a common concern for many individuals, and understanding the underlying causes can help alleviate anxiety and improve overall sexual health. In your case, it seems that you experienced an urge to urinate shortly after engaging in masturbation, which led to discomfort and a feeling of incomplete bladder emptying. This situation can be influenced by several factors, including physiological responses, psychological aspects, and potential underlying medical conditions.
Firstly, it is important to recognize that sexual arousal and activity can stimulate the pelvic region, which may lead to increased sensations in the bladder and urinary tract. During sexual activity, the pelvic floor muscles contract, and this can sometimes create a feeling of urgency or pressure in the bladder. Additionally, the prostate gland in males can also be stimulated during sexual activity, which may contribute to sensations of fullness or the need to urinate.
In your case, the fact that you had not engaged in masturbation for three days prior to this incident may have also played a role. The buildup of sexual tension can lead to heightened sensitivity and a stronger urge to urinate. When you mentioned that you felt discomfort and had the urge to urinate shortly after, it is possible that the stimulation of the pelvic area during masturbation triggered this response. The sensation of needing to urinate again shortly after voiding could indicate that your bladder was still reacting to the stimulation, or it could be a psychological response to the discomfort you were feeling.
It is also worth noting that if you frequently experience this sensation, it could be indicative of a condition known as "overactive bladder," which is characterized by a sudden urge to urinate that may be difficult to control. However, since you mentioned that this was a one-time occurrence and that you do not typically experience nighttime frequency, it may not be a cause for concern.
If you find that this sensation persists or worsens, it would be advisable to consult a healthcare professional. They may recommend a urological evaluation to rule out any potential underlying issues such as urinary tract infections, bladder irritability, or other conditions that could be contributing to your symptoms.
In the meantime, consider practicing relaxation techniques and pelvic floor exercises, such as Kegel exercises, which can help strengthen the pelvic floor muscles and improve bladder control. Staying well-hydrated and avoiding irritants such as caffeine and alcohol may also help reduce urinary urgency.
In summary, while experiencing frequent urination after sexual activity can be concerning, it is often a normal physiological response to stimulation. If this becomes a recurring issue or is accompanied by other symptoms, seeking medical advice is the best course of action to ensure your health and well-being.
