Can "Anbernic" be taken for frequent urination?
Hello Dr.
Lee: I have been suffering from recurrent urinary tract infections for many years, and in May, I experienced another episode characterized by significant frequency of urination (the urine flows but is not painful).
After consulting a gynecologist, I was diagnosed with pelvic infection and took antibiotics for almost a month, but my condition fluctuated.
I then switched to traditional Chinese medicine, which also showed inconsistent results.
The frequency of urination did not improve significantly.
Later, I visited a family medicine doctor, who prescribed "Anpain" (an anticholinergic medication) for me.
Taking just one 0.5 mg pill per day has noticeably improved my symptoms.
My lifestyle is simple, and my diet is light; I also have only one sexual partner.
I would like to know if taking "Anpain" can lead to dependency.
Is taking "Anpain" the correct choice? Should I go back to the gynecologist or urologist for a complete examination, or do you have any better suggestions? Thank you.

Using Ambenonium for frequent urination issues can be a complex decision that requires careful consideration of the underlying causes of your symptoms and the potential benefits and risks associated with the medication. Ambenonium is primarily used as a treatment for myasthenia gravis, a neuromuscular disorder, and it works by inhibiting the breakdown of acetylcholine, thereby increasing its availability at the neuromuscular junction. While it may have some effects on bladder function, it is not typically the first-line treatment for urinary issues.
Frequent urination can be caused by a variety of factors, including urinary tract infections (UTIs), bladder irritability, prostate issues in men, or even certain medications. In your case, it seems you have been dealing with recurrent UTIs, which can lead to persistent urinary symptoms even after treatment. The fact that you have tried antibiotics and traditional Chinese medicine with only partial relief suggests that your condition may require a more comprehensive evaluation.
Regarding your question about dependency on Ambenonium, it is important to note that while some medications can lead to physical dependence, Ambenonium is not typically associated with this issue. However, long-term use of any medication should be monitored by a healthcare provider to assess its effectiveness and any potential side effects. If Ambenonium is providing significant relief from your symptoms, it may be a reasonable option, but it is crucial to ensure that it is addressing the underlying cause of your frequent urination.
Given your history of recurrent UTIs and the complexity of your symptoms, it would be advisable to consult with a urologist or a specialist in women's health. A thorough evaluation may include urine tests, imaging studies, and possibly cystoscopy to examine the bladder directly. This comprehensive approach can help identify any anatomical or functional issues that may be contributing to your symptoms.
In addition to seeking specialized care, consider lifestyle modifications that may help alleviate your symptoms. Staying well-hydrated, avoiding bladder irritants such as caffeine and alcohol, and practicing good hygiene can all contribute to urinary health. Additionally, pelvic floor exercises may help strengthen the muscles involved in urination and improve bladder control.
In summary, while Ambenonium may provide some relief for your frequent urination, it is essential to ensure that it is the appropriate treatment for your specific situation. Consulting with a specialist for a complete evaluation and considering lifestyle changes can lead to a more effective management plan for your urinary symptoms. Always communicate openly with your healthcare provider about your symptoms, treatment responses, and any concerns you may have regarding your medications.
