Pearls on the foreskin?
There are localized small, blister-like bumps on both sides of the foreskin (without pus or similar discharge).
This condition has persisted for a while (4.5 months).
Occasionally, there is a slight itch, but it resolves quickly, and I haven't paid much attention to it.
However, I am somewhat concerned about whether this could be a medical issue and if delaying treatment could be problematic.
I would like to know what this condition might be.

Dr. Li Xinyi reply Urology
It doesn't appear to be a sexually transmitted infection; it seems more like chronic skin irritation.
If you have not engaged in any risky sexual behavior, I recommend consulting a dermatologist.
I hope this information is helpful to you.

Understanding small bumps on the foreskin can be a source of concern for many individuals. The presence of small, bump-like formations on the foreskin, especially if they resemble tiny blisters and are accompanied by occasional itching, can be indicative of several conditions. It is essential to approach this issue with a clear understanding of potential causes and when to seek medical attention.
One common cause of small bumps on the foreskin is pearls of Fordyce, which are small, painless, pale bumps that can appear on the shaft of the penis or the foreskin. These are sebaceous glands that are not associated with hair follicles and are completely normal. They do not require treatment and are not a sign of any disease.
Another possibility is pearly penile papules, which are small, dome-shaped bumps that typically appear around the corona of the glans. These are also benign and are considered a normal anatomical variation. They are not contagious and do not pose any health risks.
However, if the bumps are itchy or have changed in appearance, it could indicate other conditions. Balanitis, an inflammation of the glans, can cause redness, swelling, and bumps. This condition can result from poor hygiene, infections, or irritants. It is often treated with topical antifungal or steroid creams, depending on the underlying cause.
Another potential cause is genital warts, which are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). These can appear as small, flesh-colored or gray bumps and may be itchy or uncomfortable. If you suspect genital warts, it is crucial to consult a healthcare provider for diagnosis and treatment options, as they can be contagious.
Folliculitis, an inflammation of the hair follicles, can also present as small bumps and may be itchy. This condition can arise from bacterial infections, ingrown hairs, or irritation from shaving. Treatment typically involves good hygiene and, in some cases, topical antibiotics.
In rare cases, small bumps could indicate a more serious condition, such as herpes simplex virus (HSV) infection, which can cause painful blisters. If the bumps are painful, blister-like, or accompanied by flu-like symptoms, it is essential to seek medical attention promptly.
Given that your symptoms have persisted for several months, it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional for a thorough examination. A doctor can provide a definitive diagnosis and recommend appropriate treatment based on the specific condition. It is crucial not to delay seeking medical advice, as early intervention can help prevent complications and alleviate concerns.
In summary, while small bumps on the foreskin can be benign and common, persistent symptoms warrant a professional evaluation. Understanding the potential causes can help alleviate anxiety and guide you toward appropriate care. Always prioritize your health and well-being by consulting a healthcare provider when in doubt.
