Painful sensation in the glans penis?

In the past couple of days, I've experienced some stinging (or heightened sensitivity) when touching the area around the glans during cleaning.
I haven't engaged in sexual intercourse for several years, and I do not feel any itching or pain during urination or at other times.
The noticeable stinging sensation occurs only when I retract the foreskin and touch it directly with my fingers, and there are no changes in appearance.
What could this condition be?

Mr. Wang, 20~29 year old female. Ask Date: 2013/12/31

Sensitivity and pain in the glans, particularly when touched, can be concerning and may arise from various causes. Given your description, it seems that the discomfort is localized to the area around the glans and is not accompanied by other symptoms such as itching or pain during urination. Here are some potential causes and solutions for your symptoms:

Possible Causes:
1. Irritation or Inflammation: The glans can become sensitive due to irritation from soaps, detergents, or other hygiene products. If you have recently changed your personal care products, this could be a contributing factor.

2. Balanitis: This is an inflammation of the glans, often caused by infections (bacterial or fungal), poor hygiene, or skin conditions. While you mentioned no visible changes, balanitis can sometimes present with subtle signs that may not be immediately apparent.

3. Sensitivity due to Lack of Sexual Activity: If you have not engaged in sexual activity for an extended period, the glans may become more sensitive due to a lack of stimulation. This can lead to heightened sensitivity when touched.

4. Skin Conditions: Conditions such as eczema or psoriasis can affect the genital area, leading to sensitivity and discomfort. Even if there are no visible signs, underlying skin conditions could be a factor.

5. Nerve Sensitivity: Sometimes, the nerves in the area can become hypersensitive due to various factors, including stress or previous trauma.

6. Infections: While you do not report itching or pain during urination, it is still possible to have a mild infection that could cause localized sensitivity.

Solutions:
1. Gentle Hygiene Practices: Ensure that you are using mild, unscented soaps for cleaning the area. Avoid any harsh chemicals or fragrances that could irritate the sensitive skin.

2. Moisturizing: If dryness is a concern, consider using a gentle, hypoallergenic moisturizer to keep the skin hydrated.

3. Avoid Irritants: Pay attention to any products that may come into contact with the area, including laundry detergents or fabric softeners. Switching to hypoallergenic options may help.

4. Consult a Healthcare Provider: If the sensitivity persists or worsens, it is advisable to consult a healthcare provider, preferably a urologist or dermatologist. They can perform a physical examination and may recommend tests to rule out infections or other underlying conditions.

5. Avoid Sexual Activity Until Resolved: If you are experiencing discomfort, it may be wise to avoid sexual activity until you have a clearer understanding of the cause and have consulted a healthcare professional.

6. Stress Management: If you suspect that stress may be contributing to your symptoms, consider stress-reduction techniques such as mindfulness, meditation, or gentle exercise.

7. Follow-Up: If you notice any changes in symptoms, such as the development of a rash, increased pain, or other unusual symptoms, seek medical attention promptly.

In summary, while sensitivity and pain in the glans can arise from various benign causes, it is essential to monitor your symptoms and consult a healthcare provider if they persist or worsen. Early intervention can help address any underlying issues and provide relief from discomfort.
