Which department should I consult?

Hello: Due to being quite busy, I haven't had the time to seek medical attention and will have to wait until mid-December for my salary to afford a doctor.
It's been a while...
Next month, I will have two evenings free and would like to address everything at once, but I'm a bit scattered and unsure which specialty to visit.
I also prefer not to see too many specialists due to financial constraints and limited time.
I hope the doctor can provide some guidance.
Thank you!
1.
I had a stye treated in early August, but after applying the medication and finishing the antibiotics, it still remains.
Although it hasn't grown to the point where I can't work, I still feel a foreign body sensation.

2.
Because of work and exams, I often stare at the computer and books for long periods.
Sometimes, I notice dark spots that move when I blink, almost as if they are following my tears.
Additionally, I often feel unexplained soreness and pressure in my eyes.

3.
I have a pimple below my elbow that is unknown.
When I accidentally press on it while working, it can be very painful.
It’s not very noticeable, but I can feel a hard lump.

4.
Is it possible I have leg length discrepancy? I’ve noticed that I tend to put more weight on my right leg while walking, and this situation is becoming more severe.
Due to work, I have started wearing tighter pants, and I can feel that my right thigh is noticeably tighter.
When sitting, my knees are at different heights.

5.
Gastroesophageal reflux? I often experience a burning sensation from my stomach to my chest, and sometimes it becomes quite pronounced, reaching my throat before I swallow it down.

Dr. Ye Qianyu reply Family Medicine

It is advisable to minimize staying up late and excessive eye strain, as these can significantly reduce discomfort.
For issues related to styes and eye discomfort, please consult an ophthalmologist.
For acne and gastroesophageal reflux, you may see a general internist or family medicine physician.
If you suspect a leg length discrepancy, you should seek evaluation and treatment from a rehabilitation specialist or orthopedic surgeon.

When considering which medical specialty to consult for your health issues, it is essential to prioritize your concerns based on the symptoms you are experiencing. Given the range of issues you've described, here’s a breakdown of the appropriate specialties you might consider:
1. Ophthalmology: Since you have persistent issues with a stye (針眼) and symptoms related to eye strain, such as seeing black spots and experiencing discomfort from prolonged screen time, an ophthalmologist would be the best choice. They specialize in diagnosing and treating eye conditions, and they can provide comprehensive care for your stye and any underlying issues related to your vision.

2. Dermatology: The painful bump on your elbow could be a dermatological issue, such as a cyst or another skin condition. A dermatologist can evaluate this lump and recommend appropriate treatment options. They are well-equipped to handle skin-related concerns, including acne and other dermatological conditions.

3. Orthopedics or Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation: For your concerns about leg length discrepancy and the discomfort in your right leg, an orthopedic specialist or a physician in physical medicine and rehabilitation would be suitable. They can assess your gait, evaluate any structural issues, and recommend exercises or treatments to alleviate discomfort and improve function.

4. Gastroenterology: The symptoms you describe related to gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), such as the burning sensation from your stomach to your throat, warrant a consultation with a gastroenterologist. They can perform necessary evaluations, such as an endoscopy, and provide treatment options to manage your reflux symptoms effectively.

5. General Practice or Family Medicine: If you prefer to minimize the number of specialists you visit, starting with a general practitioner or family medicine doctor could be beneficial. They can perform an initial assessment of all your symptoms and refer you to the appropriate specialists as needed. This approach can streamline your care and ensure that you are not overwhelmed by multiple appointments.

Additional Considerations:
- Time and Financial Constraints: Given your busy schedule and financial considerations, it may be wise to prioritize your visits based on the severity of your symptoms. For instance, if the eye issues are significantly impacting your daily life, you might want to see an ophthalmologist first.
- Appointment Scheduling: When you make appointments, consider discussing your multiple concerns with the office staff. Some practices may allow you to address several issues in one visit, especially if they are related.

- Follow-Up Care: After your initial consultations, ensure you follow up on any recommended treatments or referrals. This is crucial for managing your health effectively.

In summary, based on your symptoms, I recommend starting with an ophthalmologist for your eye issues, followed by a dermatologist for the bump on your elbow, an orthopedic specialist for your leg concerns, and a gastroenterologist for your reflux symptoms. If time and finances are tight, consider seeing a general practitioner first to help coordinate your care. Prioritizing your health concerns will help you navigate the healthcare system more effectively and ensure you receive the appropriate care for your needs.
