What are the issues related to balanitis?
Doctor, I would like to ask about something.
Last month, I had balanitis, and after treatment, it has healed.
However, this morning when I went to the bathroom, I noticed some small red spots on the glans that do not itch.
I'm worried it might be balanitis again.
Later in the evening, while showering, the spots seemed to fade but are still slightly visible.
Could this still be balanitis, or could it be an allergy or something else? I recently changed my body wash, and the weather has been very hot, causing me to sweat in that area, even when wearing shorts.
Do I need to seek treatment for this? Also, is it okay to wash the glans with body wash? PS: It shouldn't be a sexually transmitted infection, right? I haven't engaged in sexual activity for almost three months...

Based on the description of changes in the skin or blood vessels, if there are no symptoms or concerns, most cases do not require treatment.
It is important to note that a simple description cannot determine the condition; a thorough consultation and medical history are necessary.
It is still recommended to seek evaluation and examination from a professional physician.
Doctors often need to inquire about medical history, perform visual inspections, palpation, and other examinations to establish a diagnosis and treatment plan.
If there are any health issues, it is advisable to seek a nearby physician for examination and treatment.

The appearance of red bumps on the glans can be concerning, especially after a previous episode of balanitis (inflammation of the glans). Based on your description, it seems that the red bumps you observed were transient, as they disappeared after washing and were not accompanied by itching. This could indicate a few possibilities, including irritation, allergic reaction, or a mild form of balanitis.
1. Balanitis: This condition is characterized by inflammation of the glans and can be caused by various factors, including infections (bacterial, fungal, or viral), poor hygiene, or irritants. Since you mentioned that the bumps were not itchy and faded after washing, it may not be a classic case of balanitis, especially if you are not experiencing other symptoms such as pain, swelling, or discharge.
2. Allergic Reaction or Irritation: The recent change in your body wash could be a contributing factor. Many commercial body washes contain fragrances, dyes, and other chemicals that can irritate sensitive skin, especially in areas that are prone to moisture and friction. The heat and sweating you mentioned can exacerbate irritation, leading to transient redness or bumps. If the bumps appeared after using the new body wash, it might be worth considering switching back to your previous product or trying a hypoallergenic option.
3. Friction or Heat Rash: Given the warm weather and your mention of sweating, it’s possible that the bumps are a form of heat rash or friction irritation. This can occur when sweat gets trapped in hair follicles, leading to small red bumps. This is typically self-limiting and resolves with proper hygiene and keeping the area dry.
4. Hygiene Practices: Regarding your question about washing the glans with body wash, it is generally advisable to use mild, unscented soap or a product specifically designed for sensitive areas. The skin on the glans is delicate, and harsh soaps can disrupt the natural balance of bacteria and moisture, potentially leading to irritation or infections.
5. Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs): While you indicated that you have not engaged in sexual activity for three months, it is always prudent to consider STIs when experiencing unusual symptoms in the genital area. However, the absence of other symptoms (such as discharge, pain, or itching) makes this less likely. If you have concerns about STIs, it may be beneficial to consult a healthcare professional for testing and reassurance.
In summary, the transient nature of the red bumps, coupled with the absence of other symptoms, suggests that it may not be a serious issue. However, if the bumps reappear, persist, or are accompanied by other symptoms, it would be wise to seek medical advice. A healthcare provider can perform a physical examination and may recommend treatments or lifestyle adjustments to alleviate any irritation. In the meantime, consider using gentle, unscented products for personal hygiene and keeping the area dry and clean to prevent further irritation.
