Is it normal for the testicles to itch?
Hello doctor, I would like to ask if my excessive sweating over the years is the reason why my testicles have been very itchy.
There are no blisters, but sometimes after scratching, I notice peeling skin that is white in color within a few days.
What could this be? Additionally, my feet also sweat a lot and become itchy, sometimes developing small blisters.
If I don't scratch, it's fine, but other areas that I do scratch also peel, showing the same white skin.
Are these symptoms related? Thank you.

Dr. Wu Yuxin reply Dermatology
Based on the literal description, it is not possible to confirm the diagnosis without actually seeing the lesion.
It is recommended to have a physician evaluate it for a proper assessment.

More Info
Itchy testicles and skin issues can be quite uncomfortable and may stem from various causes. In your case, the symptoms you describe—itching, peeling skin, and the presence of small blisters—could be linked to several dermatological conditions, particularly in the context of excessive sweating.
Possible Causes
1. Intertrigo: This is a common condition that occurs in skin folds where moisture can accumulate, leading to irritation and itching. The warm, moist environment can promote fungal or bacterial infections, which may cause peeling and discomfort.
2. Fungal Infections: Conditions like tinea cruris (jock itch) can cause intense itching and peeling of the skin in the groin area. This is particularly common in individuals who sweat a lot, as the moisture can create an ideal environment for fungal growth.
3. Contact Dermatitis: This occurs when the skin reacts to irritants or allergens, which could be soaps, detergents, or even certain fabrics. If you’ve recently changed any products, this could be a potential cause.
4. Psoriasis or Eczema: These chronic skin conditions can also lead to itching and peeling. They are characterized by dry, flaky patches of skin and can be exacerbated by stress, weather changes, or irritants.
5. Sweat-related Issues: Excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) can lead to skin irritation and conditions like folliculitis, where hair follicles become inflamed, leading to itching and sometimes small bumps or blisters.
Recommendations
1. Maintain Hygiene: Keep the area clean and dry. After sweating, shower promptly and dry the area thoroughly. Consider using a gentle, fragrance-free soap to avoid irritation.
2. Moisturize: Applying a non-comedogenic moisturizer can help maintain skin hydration and prevent dryness. Look for products that are specifically designed for sensitive skin.
3. Use Antifungal Powder: If you suspect a fungal infection, using an antifungal powder can help keep the area dry and reduce itching. Over-the-counter options like clotrimazole or miconazole may be beneficial.
4. Avoid Irritants: Identify and avoid any potential irritants, such as certain soaps, detergents, or fabrics that may cause contact dermatitis.
5. Wear Breathable Fabrics: Opt for loose-fitting, breathable underwear made from natural fibers like cotton to reduce moisture buildup.
6. Consult a Dermatologist: If symptoms persist or worsen, it’s essential to consult a dermatologist. They can provide a proper diagnosis and treatment plan, which may include topical steroids for inflammation or prescription antifungal medications if a fungal infection is confirmed.
Conclusion
Itchy testicles and skin peeling can be distressing, but understanding the potential causes can help you manage the symptoms effectively. By maintaining good hygiene, using appropriate products, and consulting with a healthcare professional when necessary, you can find relief from your symptoms. Remember, self-diagnosis can be tricky, and a professional evaluation is often the best course of action for persistent skin issues.
