Can I get pregnant?
Hello, doctor.
My girlfriend and I had intimate contact on November 14th, which involved external rubbing, with the penis rubbing against the outside of the vagina.
It felt dry and painful, and we did not use a condom.
Later, I researched online and found out that pregnancy might be possible since that day was during her ovulation period, which is said to increase the chances.
At that moment, I thought it was unlikely, so we did not take any emergency contraception.
However, her period came 14 days later and lasted for 6 days, but it seemed to be 5 days late.
Given this situation, is there a chance she could be pregnant? I'm very worried.

When it comes to the possibility of pregnancy after intimate contact, especially during the ovulation period, it's important to understand the mechanics of conception and the factors that influence it. Based on your description, you engaged in external genital contact without penetration, which generally carries a lower risk of pregnancy compared to penetrative intercourse. However, there are still some considerations to keep in mind.
Firstly, the timing of your intimate contact is crucial. You mentioned that the encounter occurred on November 14, which you identified as your girlfriend's ovulation day. Ovulation is when an egg is released from the ovary, and it is the most fertile time in a woman's menstrual cycle. Sperm can survive in the female reproductive tract for up to five days, so if sperm were present during your intimate contact, there is a potential risk of pregnancy if they were to come into contact with the vaginal opening.
You also noted that your girlfriend's period was delayed by five days but eventually arrived and lasted for six days. A late period can be concerning, but it is not definitive proof of pregnancy. Many factors can cause menstrual irregularities, including stress, hormonal fluctuations, changes in weight, and other health-related issues. Since her period did arrive, it is a positive sign that she is likely not pregnant, especially if the flow is consistent with her normal menstrual pattern.
If you are still concerned about the possibility of pregnancy, it would be wise for your girlfriend to take a home pregnancy test. These tests are designed to detect the hormone hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin), which is produced during pregnancy. For the most accurate results, it is recommended to take the test after a missed period or at least two weeks after the potential conception date.
In summary, while the risk of pregnancy from external genital contact is lower than from penetrative sex, it is not zero, especially during the ovulation period. Given that your girlfriend's period has arrived, it is less likely that she is pregnant, but if there are ongoing concerns, a pregnancy test can provide clarity. If there are any further questions or if her menstrual cycle continues to be irregular, it may be beneficial for her to consult with a healthcare provider for personalized advice and guidance.
