Can taking antibiotics delay menstruation?

I would like to ask the doctor about an encounter on December 25th.
Initially, there was intercourse without a condom, but it lasted only a few thrusts and I did not feel the urge to ejaculate.
Then, I put on a condom and continued for a while, eventually ejaculating while wearing the condom.
Afterward, I checked and the condom was intact.

1.
I am concerned about the initial few thrusts without a condom.
Is there a risk of pregnancy from that?
2.
I have been taking medication to regulate my menstrual cycle for the past two months, with a cycle length of 28 days.
My last period started on December 8th, and the encounter on December 25th was on day 18 of my cycle.
Is this considered a fertile period? (I stopped taking the medication in December.)
3.
I have been dealing with folliculitis in the vulvar area and have been taking Cephalexin 500mg and Magnesium oxide 25mg for the past 9 days.
Will these medications delay my menstrual period?
Thank you, doctor!

1.
Before formal ejaculation, males secrete some fluid that may contain sperm, which can potentially lead to pregnancy.
It is generally recommended to use condoms throughout sexual intercourse.

2.
The cycle of taking menstrual regulation medication does not align with the body's natural cycle (due to the influence of the medication), so it is not possible to infer when ovulation (the fertile period) occurs based on the cycle of taking the medication.
3.
These two types of medications should not be related to the menstrual cycle.

When it comes to the relationship between antibiotics and menstrual cycles, there are several factors to consider. Let's break down your questions and concerns systematically.

1. Risk of Pregnancy: You mentioned that during intercourse, there was a brief moment without a condom, but you did not ejaculate. Generally, the risk of pregnancy from pre-ejaculate fluid (pre-cum) is low, but it is not zero. Pre-ejaculate can contain sperm, and if it comes into contact with the vaginal canal, there is a potential risk of pregnancy. However, since you used a condom for the majority of the intercourse and it did not break, the likelihood of pregnancy is significantly reduced. If you are concerned about pregnancy, consider taking a home pregnancy test if your period is late.

2. Understanding Your Menstrual Cycle: You mentioned that your menstrual cycle is typically 28 days and that you had your last period on December 8. Engaging in sexual activity on December 25 would place it around day 18 of your cycle, which is often considered the fertile window, especially if you have a regular cycle. However, since you have stopped taking your menstrual regulation medication, it is important to note that hormonal medications can affect your cycle's predictability. If your cycle has been regular, you may be at a higher risk of ovulation during this time, but individual cycles can vary.

3. Impact of Antibiotics on Menstrual Cycle: You are currently taking Cephalexin, an antibiotic, for folliculitis (inflammation of hair follicles). Generally, antibiotics like Cephalexin are not known to directly cause delays in menstruation. However, any illness, stress, or changes in routine can impact your menstrual cycle. Additionally, if you have been experiencing discomfort or stress due to your condition, this could also affect your cycle. It is important to monitor your symptoms and menstrual cycle closely.

4. Other Considerations: If you are concerned about the potential effects of medications on your menstrual cycle, it is always a good idea to discuss this with your healthcare provider. They can provide personalized advice based on your medical history and current health status.
In summary, while antibiotics like Cephalexin are not typically associated with delayed periods, various factors including hormonal changes, stress, and health conditions can influence your menstrual cycle. If your period is significantly delayed or if you have other concerning symptoms, it would be wise to consult with your healthcare provider for further evaluation and guidance. Always remember that maintaining open communication with your healthcare provider about your medications and any changes in your body is crucial for your overall health.
