Is this normal?
I took RU486 at the end of November, and I started bleeding on November 27.
I continued to have regular follow-up appointments, and the bleeding lasted for about a month.
The doctor mentioned that my contractions seemed weaker and prescribed me a 24-day course of menstrual regulation medication, which I took without interruption, with the last dose on January 19.
However, I still have not gotten my period as of today.

After taking RU486, it is not uncommon for individuals to experience delayed menstruation. RU486, also known as mifepristone, is a medication used for medical abortion, and it can lead to various changes in the menstrual cycle. The timeline for resuming normal menstrual cycles can vary significantly among individuals due to several factors, including hormonal fluctuations, the body's response to the medication, and individual health conditions.
In your case, you mentioned that you started bleeding on November 27 and continued to experience bleeding for about a month. This prolonged bleeding is not unusual after taking RU486, as it can cause the uterus to contract and expel its contents, leading to a heavier than normal menstrual flow. The fact that your doctor prescribed a hormonal medication to help regulate your cycle indicates that they are taking steps to manage your symptoms and assist your body in returning to a normal state.
It is important to understand that after a medical abortion, the body may take some time to readjust. The first menstrual period after an abortion can be delayed for several weeks to a few months. In many cases, it is expected that menstruation will return within 4 to 6 weeks after the procedure, but this can vary widely. Factors such as stress, changes in weight, and underlying health issues can all influence the timing of your next period.
Since you have been taking medication to help regulate your cycle and have not yet experienced menstruation after your last dose on January 19, it is advisable to follow up with your healthcare provider. They may want to conduct further evaluations, such as blood tests to check hormone levels, to ensure that everything is progressing normally. Additionally, they can rule out any potential complications, such as retained products of conception, which could also affect your menstrual cycle.
If you are experiencing any other symptoms, such as severe pain, fever, or unusual discharge, it is crucial to seek medical attention promptly. These could be signs of complications that require immediate care.
In summary, while it is not uncommon to experience delayed menstruation after taking RU486, especially following prolonged bleeding and hormonal treatment, it is essential to maintain open communication with your healthcare provider. They can provide personalized guidance based on your specific situation and help ensure that your reproductive health is managed effectively. If you have concerns or if your period does not return soon, do not hesitate to reach out for further evaluation and support.
