Redness of the glans?
I have three small red patches on the right side of my glans (they are not painful or itchy, and they are flat without any protrusions).
A few years ago, I visited a doctor and received an ointment, which sometimes resolved the issue after a few days.
I later noticed that if I didn't dry off properly after showering, the condition would occur (I have since made sure to dry off completely, even using a hairdryer).
Recently, it has been happening frequently again, and it consistently appears in those same spots without resolving on its own.
What methods can help eliminate this condition?

Based on the symptoms, it is likely to be balanoposthitis.
This condition is generally related to individual constitution and may easily recur after treatment.
To prevent recurrence, it is recommended to maintain a balanced diet, ensure adequate sleep without staying up late, avoid tobacco and alcohol, and manage stress levels.

Red spots on the glans, particularly when they are flat, painless, and non-itchy, can be concerning but are often benign. However, it is essential to consider various potential causes and appropriate management strategies.
Possible Causes
1. Irritation or Friction: The glans is sensitive, and irritation can occur due to friction from clothing, sexual activity, or inadequate drying after bathing. If the area remains moist, it can lead to skin irritation, which may manifest as red spots.
2. Dermatitis: Contact dermatitis, which can be caused by soaps, detergents, or other irritants, may lead to localized redness. This condition is characterized by inflammation of the skin and can occur in sensitive areas like the glans.
3. Infections: While you mentioned that the spots are not painful or itchy, it is still important to consider infections. Fungal infections, such as candidiasis, can cause red spots or patches, especially in warm, moist environments. Bacterial infections can also lead to similar symptoms.
4. Pearly Penile Papules: These are small, benign bumps that can appear on the glans and are often mistaken for lesions. They are normal anatomical variations and do not require treatment.
5. Fordyce Spots: These are small, painless, pale bumps that can appear on the glans and are caused by enlarged sebaceous glands. They are harmless and do not require treatment.
6. Lichen Planus: This is a chronic inflammatory condition that can affect the skin and mucous membranes, including the genital area. It may present as flat, red spots or lesions.
Management Strategies
1. Maintain Dryness: Since you noted that the spots tend to appear when the area is not dried properly, ensure that the glans is thoroughly dried after bathing. Using a hairdryer on a low setting can help, but be cautious not to burn the skin.
2. Avoid Irritants: Identify and avoid any potential irritants, such as harsh soaps or detergents. Opt for mild, fragrance-free products to minimize irritation.
3. Topical Treatments: If you have previously used a medicated ointment that was effective, consider consulting your healthcare provider for a prescription or recommendation for a similar treatment. Over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream may help reduce inflammation if irritation is suspected.
4. Hygiene Practices: Practice good hygiene by washing the area gently with mild soap and water. Avoid excessive scrubbing, which can exacerbate irritation.
5. Consult a Specialist: If the red spots persist or worsen, it is advisable to consult a dermatologist or urologist. They can perform a thorough examination and may conduct tests to rule out infections or other conditions.
6. Monitor Changes: Keep track of any changes in the spots, such as increased size, pain, or itching. Documenting these changes can help your healthcare provider make a more accurate diagnosis.
Conclusion
While the red spots on the glans are likely benign, it is essential to monitor them closely and maintain proper hygiene. If they do not resolve with conservative measures or if you notice any changes, seeking medical advice is crucial for appropriate diagnosis and treatment. Remember, early intervention can prevent potential complications and provide peace of mind.
