Glans issues
Hello Doctor, I have a condition known as pseudophimosis.
What is the white membrane-like layer on the glans? It seems like I can't wash it off by rubbing with my hand.
When I go to the bathroom, it tends to come out, and I shake after urinating.
Does this help reduce the occurrence of that white membrane? Can I use body wash and rub it while showering, or is it sufficient to just use my hands to clean off the white substance? After washing, can I put it back without drying it, as I'm worried about the towel being contaminated? If it feels too dry, can I apply a moisturizer like Cetaphil lotion? Thank you.

Hello: Rinse gently with clean water twice a day without scrubbing too hard, and avoid using soap or body wash.
Make sure to dry thoroughly; you can use toilet paper after urination or a clean towel (do not use lotion).
Give it a try, and wish you good health.
If engaging in sexual activity, be sure to use a condom.

More Info
Pseudophimosis, often referred to as "false phimosis," is a condition where the foreskin of the penis cannot be easily retracted over the glans (the head of the penis). In your case, the presence of a white membrane on the glans could be attributed to a few different factors, including smegma accumulation, a fungal infection, or a condition known as balanitis, which is inflammation of the glans.
Smegma is a natural substance that consists of dead skin cells, oils, and moisture that can accumulate under the foreskin. It is typically white or yellowish in color and can create a film-like appearance on the glans. While it is normal to have some smegma, excessive buildup can lead to irritation and discomfort.
To address your concerns:
1. Cleaning the Area: It is essential to maintain proper hygiene. You can gently retract the foreskin (if possible) and wash the area with warm water. Using a mild soap or body wash can help, but be cautious with products that may irritate sensitive skin. It is generally advisable to avoid using harsh soaps or scrubbing too vigorously, as this can lead to irritation.
2. Washing Technique: When washing, you can use your hands to gently clean the area. If you find that the white membrane does not come off easily, it may be due to the natural accumulation of smegma. Regular cleaning should help reduce its buildup. However, if you notice persistent irritation, redness, or discharge, it is crucial to consult a healthcare professional.
3. Drying After Washing: After washing, it is best to gently pat the area dry with a clean towel. If you are concerned about potential contamination from the towel, you can allow the area to air dry. Avoid putting the foreskin back over the glans until it is completely dry to prevent moisture buildup, which can lead to infections.
4. Moisturizing: If the area feels too dry after washing, you can apply a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer. However, be cautious with products like "雪弗蘭乳液" (Shea butter lotion) or any other lotion, as they may contain fragrances or additives that could irritate sensitive skin. Always opt for products specifically designed for sensitive areas or consult with a healthcare provider for recommendations.
5. Consulting a Healthcare Provider: If you continue to experience issues with the white membrane, or if you have any discomfort, pain, or unusual symptoms, it is essential to seek medical advice. A healthcare provider can perform an examination and determine if there is an underlying condition that requires treatment, such as an infection or inflammation.
In summary, maintaining proper hygiene is crucial in managing pseudophimosis and the associated symptoms. Regular cleaning with warm water and gentle soap, allowing the area to dry properly, and being cautious with moisturizers can help. If symptoms persist or worsen, do not hesitate to consult a healthcare professional for further evaluation and management.
