Is it possible to be pregnant?

On March 3rd, I had some intimate contact with my boyfriend.
My period came in both March and April, but in April it arrived seven days early.
I have been experiencing brown discharge that hasn't cleared up and has lasted longer than usual, and I haven't had any abdominal pain (I usually experience cramps during my period).
My period was originally due on May 7th, but as of May 10th, it still hasn't arrived.
The last time I had intimate contact with my boyfriend was on May 5th, but he did not ejaculate, and we were both fully clothed.
I've been feeling a bit stressed due to exams lately, and currently, I am experiencing muscle soreness (in my lower back and thighs), breast tenderness, irritability, and an increase in clear discharge (leukorrhea) that has lasted for 4-5 days.
Could this mean my period is about to start, or is there a possibility that I might be pregnant?

Based on the symptoms and timeline you've provided, it seems that you are experiencing some irregularities in your menstrual cycle, which can be concerning and confusing, especially when considering the possibility of pregnancy. Let's break down your situation and address your concerns.

1. Irregular Periods: It's not uncommon for menstrual cycles to become irregular due to various factors, including stress, hormonal changes, or lifestyle changes. The fact that your period came early in April and is now delayed in May could be attributed to these factors. Stress, particularly from academic pressures, can significantly affect your menstrual cycle, leading to changes in timing and flow.

2. Brown Discharge: The presence of brown discharge can be indicative of several things. It often occurs at the beginning or end of a menstrual period as old blood is expelled from the body. However, if this discharge is occurring outside of your typical menstrual cycle and is accompanied by other symptoms, it could be a sign of implantation bleeding, which occurs when a fertilized egg attaches to the uterine lining. This is typically light and may be brownish in color.
3. Pregnancy Symptoms: The symptoms you describe—muscle soreness, breast tenderness (often described as "swollen" or "sensitive"), mood swings, and increased vaginal discharge—can be associated with early pregnancy. However, they can also be linked to premenstrual syndrome (PMS) or other hormonal fluctuations. The key symptom to watch for is a missed period, which is often the first sign of pregnancy.

4. Timing of Intercourse: You mentioned that your last intimate encounter was on May 5, and that it was not penetrative. While the risk of pregnancy from such activity is low, it is not entirely absent. Sperm can survive in the female reproductive tract for several days, and if ovulation occurs shortly after your encounter, there is a possibility of conception.

5. Next Steps: Given that your period is now delayed, the most straightforward way to determine if you are pregnant is to take a home pregnancy test. These tests are designed to detect the hormone hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin), which is produced after a fertilized egg attaches to the uterus. For the most accurate results, it is best to take the test after your missed period.

6. Consulting a Healthcare Provider: If the home pregnancy test is positive, or if you continue to experience irregular periods, it would be wise to consult with a healthcare provider. They can offer further testing and guidance based on your individual health needs. Additionally, if you experience any unusual symptoms such as severe pain, heavy bleeding, or signs of infection, seek medical attention promptly.

In summary, while your symptoms could suggest the possibility of pregnancy, they could also be attributed to stress or hormonal changes. Taking a pregnancy test will provide clarity, and consulting with a healthcare professional can help address any further concerns you may have. Remember, it's important to take care of your mental and physical health during this time, regardless of the outcome.
