Pearly penile papules inflammation
Hello doctor, I have pearly penile papules on the corona of my penis.
Yesterday, I noticed that one of the papules became red.
A while ago, I had red spots on my glans and saw a doctor who diagnosed me with balanitis and prescribed a cream, advising me to apply it if I noticed any redness.
So when I saw that the papule was red, I used that cream.
This morning, I woke up and the redness of the papule has noticeably decreased.
I would like to know if this is just a normal inflammation, since it improved significantly after just one day of applying the cream.
Could this be a sign of genital warts? I have not engaged in sexual activity, but I am concerned about potential indirect infection.
Is it possible for pearly penile papules to become inflamed?

Hello: It is likely a skin inflammation, not just an inflammation of the pearly penile papules.
It may improve within a day.
Keeping the area clean, dry, and well-ventilated will help it heal faster.
Applying medication is also an option.
For warts, a medical diagnosis is necessary.
The chance of infection from a person with warts is quite low if there has been no contact.
Wishing you good health.

More Info
Pearly penile papules (PPP) are small, benign growths that typically appear around the corona of the glans penis. They are a normal anatomical variant and are not considered a sexually transmitted infection (STI) or a disease. However, inflammation of these papules can occur for various reasons, leading to concerns about their appearance and potential underlying issues.
In your case, the redness and inflammation of the pearly papule could be attributed to a few factors. First, irritation from friction, such as during sexual activity or even from clothing, can cause inflammation. Additionally, if there is any underlying condition, such as balanitis (inflammation of the glans), it could exacerbate the appearance of these papules. The fact that you have previously experienced redness on the glans and were treated for it suggests that your skin may be sensitive or prone to irritation.
The use of the topical medication prescribed for your previous condition may have contributed to the reduction in redness you observed after just one day. Topical corticosteroids or anti-inflammatory creams can effectively reduce inflammation and redness, which is likely why you noticed an improvement. However, it is essential to follow the advice of your healthcare provider regarding the use of any medication, especially on sensitive areas.
Regarding your concern about whether the inflamed papule could be a sign of condyloma acuminatum (commonly known as genital warts), it is important to note that PPP and genital warts can sometimes be confused due to their appearance. However, genital warts typically have a different texture and may appear as cauliflower-like growths, whereas PPP are smooth and dome-shaped. Since you mentioned that you have not engaged in sexual activity, the risk of contracting HPV (the virus that causes genital warts) is significantly lower, but it is still possible to contract it through non-penetrative sexual contact or skin-to-skin contact.
In summary, the inflammation of your pearly penile papule is likely a benign condition, possibly due to irritation or a mild inflammatory response. It is not uncommon for pearly papules to become inflamed, especially if they are irritated. If the redness persists, worsens, or if you notice any additional symptoms such as pain, discharge, or changes in the texture of the papule, it would be prudent to consult a healthcare provider for further evaluation. They may perform a physical examination and, if necessary, conduct tests to rule out other conditions.
In the meantime, it is advisable to avoid any irritants, including harsh soaps or excessive friction, and to maintain good hygiene. If you have any further concerns or if new symptoms develop, do not hesitate to seek medical advice. Your health and peace of mind are paramount, and a healthcare professional can provide the most accurate diagnosis and treatment options tailored to your situation.
