It seems that the clitoris has shrunk?

Recently, out of curiosity, I started stimulating my clitoris.
After feeling excited only twice, I lost sensitivity, so I bought a vibrator.
Initially, using it felt electrifying, and it seemed like my clitoris was expanding with excitement.
I also noticed that my menstrual period was approaching at that time.
However, gradually, I have been feeling less sensation.
My clitoris seems to have shrunk, and I'm unsure if it's due to my excessive stimulation or if it's just a psychological response.
I have only engaged in external stimulation and have never penetrated.
I noticed a small lump next to my clitoris.
I was thinking that drinking more water might help, but I haven't visited a gynecologist yet, and I'm worried that my clitoris might be disappearing.

Dr. Chen Zhiyu reply Obstetrics and Gynecology

It is acceptable to achieve orgasm through the use of external devices, and there is no need to worry as the structure of the clitoris will not be damaged as a result.
However, if you notice any unusual hard lumps upon examination, it is advisable to consult a gynecologist.
Thank you for your question, and I wish you health and happiness.

Understanding changes in clitoral sensitivity can be a complex issue, as it involves various physiological, psychological, and hormonal factors. It’s important to recognize that the clitoris is a highly sensitive organ, rich in nerve endings, and its sensitivity can fluctuate due to a variety of reasons, including hormonal changes, psychological states, and physical stimulation techniques.

Firstly, it’s essential to understand that sexual arousal and sensitivity can be influenced by emotional and psychological factors. Stress, anxiety, and even excitement can affect how sensitive the clitoris feels. If you have recently experienced heightened excitement or anxiety, it could lead to temporary changes in sensitivity. Additionally, if you are new to exploring your body, it’s possible that your nervous system is still adjusting to these sensations, which can also lead to fluctuations in sensitivity.

Regarding your experience with the massage wand, it’s not uncommon for individuals to experience a change in sensitivity with different types of stimulation. The initial excitement and novelty of using a new device can lead to heightened sensations, but over time, your body may adapt to that stimulation, resulting in a decrease in sensitivity. This phenomenon is known as habituation, where the body becomes accustomed to a stimulus, leading to a diminished response.

You mentioned feeling a "shrinkage" in sensitivity and the clitoris itself. It’s important to note that the clitoris does not physically shrink; rather, the perception of sensitivity can change. Factors such as hydration, arousal levels, and even the time of the menstrual cycle can influence how sensitive the clitoris feels. Staying hydrated is always beneficial for overall health, but it may not directly impact clitoral sensitivity.

If you are experiencing discomfort or unusual changes, such as the presence of a small lump near the clitoris, it’s advisable to consult a healthcare professional, preferably a gynecologist. They can provide a thorough examination to rule out any underlying conditions, such as cysts or infections, which could be contributing to your symptoms. It’s crucial to prioritize your health and seek professional advice if you have concerns.

In terms of sexual exploration, it’s essential to approach it with patience and care. If you feel that your sensitivity has decreased, consider varying your techniques and giving yourself time to relax and enjoy the experience without pressure. Sometimes, taking a break from stimulation can help reset your sensitivity levels.

Lastly, remember that sexual health is an integral part of overall well-being. If you have concerns about your body or sexual function, don’t hesitate to reach out to a healthcare provider. They can offer guidance, support, and reassurance as you navigate your sexual health journey.
