Blood Pressure: Is My Reading Normal? - Cardiology

I would like to inquire about blood pressure issues?

Since I recorded a blood pressure of 131/7x once, I started to worry about whether I have hypertension.
I even bought a blood pressure monitor.
In previous health check-ups, my blood pressure was 115/75 and 98/71.
After purchasing the monitor, I measured my blood pressure throughout the day, excluding any instances of anxiety.
On that day, my blood pressure was around 10x~11x/7x ten minutes after waking up, 120~123/7x in the afternoon, and 10x~11x/7x in the evening.
Is this blood pressure considered normal?

Understanding blood pressure readings can be quite confusing, especially when you have fluctuating numbers that seem to vary significantly throughout the day. Based on the information you've provided, it appears that your blood pressure readings are generally within a normal range, particularly when you consider the context of your previous readings and the times at which you measure your blood pressure.

To clarify, normal blood pressure is typically defined as being below 120/80 mmHg. Your readings of 100-120 systolic (the top number) and 70-80 diastolic (the bottom number) suggest that you are within a healthy range, particularly since you mentioned that these readings were taken in a relaxed state, away from any anxiety-inducing situations.
It's important to note that blood pressure can fluctuate throughout the day due to various factors, including physical activity, stress, hydration levels, and even the time of day. For instance, it's common for blood pressure to be lower in the morning after waking up and to rise slightly throughout the day. Your readings of 100-123 systolic and 70-80 diastolic indicate that you are likely maintaining a healthy blood pressure profile.

The concern you expressed regarding a previous reading of 131/7x is understandable, especially if it was taken during a stressful moment or if you were feeling anxious. This phenomenon is often referred to as "white coat syndrome," where individuals experience elevated blood pressure readings in clinical settings due to anxiety. This can lead to unnecessary worry about hypertension.
In your case, the fact that you have taken multiple readings throughout the day and found them to be consistently within the normal range is reassuring. It is also worth mentioning that the American Heart Association recommends measuring blood pressure at the same times each day to get a more accurate picture of your overall blood pressure trends.
If you are still concerned about your blood pressure or if you experience symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, or shortness of breath, it would be wise to consult with a healthcare professional. They can provide a more comprehensive evaluation, including a review of your medical history, lifestyle factors, and any potential underlying conditions that could affect your blood pressure.

In terms of lifestyle management, maintaining a balanced diet, engaging in regular physical activity, managing stress, and avoiding excessive salt intake can all contribute positively to blood pressure regulation. Additionally, keeping track of your readings and discussing them with your doctor can help ensure that you remain informed about your cardiovascular health.

In summary, based on your reported readings, it seems that your blood pressure is within a normal range, especially when measured in a relaxed state. However, if you have ongoing concerns or experience any unusual symptoms, seeking medical advice would be a prudent step. Regular monitoring and a healthy lifestyle can help you maintain optimal blood pressure levels and overall health.
