Post-operative issues after circumcision?

Hello, I would like to ask a question.
I have seen that many people experience pain during erections after surgery, but it has been two days since my surgery and I only have some engorgement without any pain.
The erections are not as firm as before; they are just slightly enlarged and engorged.
The glans still has some swelling since the surgery.
What does this phenomenon indicate? I am worried that the use of a circumcision device may affect my sexual function in the future.
Please clarify my concerns.
Thank you.

Post-circumcision concerns regarding pain and swelling are common and can be a source of anxiety for many patients. It’s important to understand that some degree of pain and swelling is expected after any surgical procedure, including circumcision. Here’s a comprehensive overview of what you might be experiencing and what to expect as you recover.

Understanding Pain and Swelling After Circumcision
1. Normal Postoperative Symptoms:
After circumcision, it’s typical to experience some swelling and discomfort in the genital area. The degree of pain can vary significantly from person to person. While some individuals may experience significant pain during erections, others may only feel mild discomfort or none at all. The swelling you are observing, particularly around the glans (the head of the penis), is also a common postoperative symptom. This swelling is usually due to the surgical trauma and the body’s natural inflammatory response.

2. Erections and Sensitivity:
It’s not unusual for erections to feel different after circumcision. The glans, which was previously covered by the foreskin, is now exposed and may be more sensitive. This sensitivity can lead to discomfort during erections, especially in the early stages of recovery. However, if you are experiencing only mild swelling and no pain during erections, this may indicate that your recovery is progressing well.

3. Healing Process:
The healing process after circumcision typically takes about 1 to 2 weeks, but complete healing can take longer. During this time, it’s essential to follow your surgeon's postoperative care instructions, which may include keeping the area clean, avoiding strenuous activities, and refraining from sexual activity until cleared by your healthcare provider.

4. Concerns About Sexual Function:
Many patients worry about the impact of circumcision on sexual function. While some studies suggest that circumcision may alter sensitivity, most men report no significant long-term changes in sexual function. If you have concerns about your sexual health or experience persistent pain or changes in erectile function, it’s crucial to discuss these with your healthcare provider.

5. When to Seek Medical Attention:
While some swelling and discomfort are normal, certain symptoms warrant a visit to your healthcare provider. These include:
- Severe pain that does not improve with over-the-counter pain relief.

- Excessive swelling or bruising that worsens over time.

- Signs of infection, such as increased redness, warmth, or discharge from the surgical site.

- Any changes in urination or persistent bleeding.

Conclusion
In summary, mild swelling and discomfort after circumcision are common and generally resolve within a few weeks. Your experience of minimal pain during erections and slight swelling is not unusual. However, it’s essential to monitor your symptoms and maintain open communication with your healthcare provider. If you have any concerns about your recovery or sexual function, don’t hesitate to reach out for professional advice. Remember, every individual’s healing process is unique, and your healthcare provider can offer the best guidance tailored to your specific situation.
