Chest pain?
Hello Doctor, I received my first dose of the AZ vaccine on September 22nd.
On September 30th, I started experiencing occasional sharp pains in my chest lasting 1 to 2 seconds.
Later, it became more intermittent, not very frequent, but I do feel a slight pressure in my chest as if something is weighing on it.
However, pressing on the area does not cause significant pain.
On October 1st, I went to a major hospital for an electrocardiogram (ECG), and the doctor said the results were normal, noting only mild mitral valve prolapse, which is not a cause for concern.
I was prescribed "Heart Care Tablets 10 mg (Jianxin Ning)" to take if I feel very uncomfortable.
To this day, I still experience slight chest tightness and occasional sharp pains, but since it is related to my chest, I am hesitant to take any medication.
Additionally, I have symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux, but this is the first time I have experienced sharp chest pains, and I am unsure if it is related to the vaccine.
I am quite worried and would like to ask the doctor whether I should continue to monitor my symptoms or if I need to undergo further examinations.

More Info
After receiving a vaccination, experiencing chest pain can understandably cause concern, especially when it involves symptoms like sharp pain and a feeling of pressure in the chest. In your case, you received the AZ vaccine on September 22, and by September 30, you began to notice occasional sharp pains and a sensation of tightness in your chest. You mentioned that these symptoms are not frequent and do not cause significant discomfort when pressing on the area, which is a positive sign.
It's important to note that while some individuals may experience mild side effects after vaccination, such as soreness at the injection site, fatigue, or mild fever, more serious reactions are rare. The symptoms you describe, including the occasional sharp pain and chest tightness, could be related to various factors, including anxiety, muscle strain, or even gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), especially since you mentioned having a history of GERD.
You took a proactive step by visiting a hospital and undergoing an electrocardiogram (ECG), which returned normal results. This is reassuring, as it suggests that there are no immediate cardiac issues. The mention of mild mitral valve prolapse (MVP) is also relevant; while MVP can sometimes be associated with palpitations or discomfort, it typically does not lead to serious complications. The medication prescribed, "心康樂錠" (likely a beta-blocker or similar), is often used to manage symptoms related to MVP and anxiety.
Given that your symptoms persist, albeit mildly, it is reasonable to consider further evaluation. Here are some steps you might take:
1. Monitor Symptoms: Keep a detailed log of your symptoms, noting when they occur, their intensity, and any potential triggers (such as physical activity, stress, or dietary factors). This information can be valuable for your healthcare provider.
2. Consult a Specialist: If symptoms continue or worsen, consider consulting a cardiologist for a more comprehensive evaluation. They may recommend additional tests, such as an echocardiogram or a stress test, to assess heart function more thoroughly.
3. Evaluate Gastroesophageal Issues: Since you have a history of GERD, it may be beneficial to consult a gastroenterologist. They can assess whether your chest discomfort could be related to acid reflux or other gastrointestinal issues.
4. Consider Anxiety Management: If anxiety is a contributing factor, discussing this with a mental health professional could be beneficial. They can provide strategies to manage anxiety, which may help alleviate some of the physical symptoms.
5. Lifestyle Modifications: Implementing lifestyle changes, such as dietary adjustments, regular exercise, and stress management techniques, can also help improve overall well-being and potentially reduce symptoms.
In summary, while your symptoms may not be directly related to the vaccination, it is essential to remain vigilant and seek further evaluation if they persist or worsen. Your health and peace of mind are paramount, and taking proactive steps to address your concerns is always advisable. If you have any further questions or need clarification, don't hesitate to reach out to your healthcare provider.
