Cervical and lumbar spine issues after a car accident?

A month ago, I was in a motorcycle accident where a motorcycle suddenly came out in front of me.
I braked hard, and both myself and the motorcycle fell to the right, with my body impacting the ground on the right side, including my head, arm, waist, and thigh.
That day, I felt something strange in the left side of my neck, and the next day, I started to experience weakness and numbness in my left hand, as well as numbness in my left big toe.
I sought medical attention and was scheduled for an EEG and nerve conduction studies a week later.
By the fourth day after the accident, the strength in my left hand returned to normal, but I continued to experience numbness in both hands (from the arms to the palms) and both feet (from the knees down to the soles), occurring daily with varying intensity—sometimes mild, sometimes severe.
I also felt discomfort in my shoulders, neck, and lower back.
Two weeks later, the report came back: the EEG was normal, but there was evidence of lumbar nerve root compression, while the cervical spine showed no issues.
I then went to another hospital for an MRI of the cervical spine and a CT scan of the lumbar spine, which revealed a herniated disc at the C5-C6 level, but no issues with the lumbar spine.
However, I am certain that these symptoms began after the accident, and they are still ongoing.
I am confused as to why the two hospitals provided different results.
The doctor only advised me to return immediately if I felt very uncomfortable, or otherwise, to follow up regularly.
Should I really not pursue any treatment?

More Info

After a motorcycle accident, it's not uncommon to experience neck and back issues, especially if you have sustained trauma to those areas. Based on your description, it seems that you have been experiencing a range of symptoms, including weakness and numbness in your left arm and foot, as well as discomfort in your neck, shoulders, and lower back. The fact that you have undergone multiple tests, including EEG and nerve conduction studies, and have received varying results from different hospitals can understandably be confusing and concerning.

Understanding Your Symptoms
1. Nerve Compression: The findings of a herniated disc at the C5-C6 level of your cervical spine could explain the numbness and weakness in your left arm and hand. Herniated discs can compress nearby nerves, leading to symptoms such as tingling, numbness, and weakness. The fact that you experienced these symptoms after the accident suggests a direct correlation between the trauma and your current condition.

2. Cervical and Lumbar Spine: While your lumbar spine was reported as normal, the symptoms you describe in your lower extremities could still be related to your cervical spine injury. Sometimes, nerve pathways can be affected in ways that are not immediately apparent on imaging studies. Additionally, the discomfort in your neck and shoulders could be due to muscle strain or tension resulting from the accident.

3. Variability in Test Results: Different hospitals may use varying techniques or interpretations when conducting imaging studies, which can lead to discrepancies in findings. It's essential to communicate these differences with your healthcare provider to ensure that you receive a comprehensive understanding of your condition.

Treatment Options
Given your symptoms and the findings from your imaging studies, here are some potential treatment options to consider:
1. Physical Therapy: Engaging in physical therapy can be beneficial for strengthening the muscles around your spine, improving flexibility, and alleviating pain. A physical therapist can design a personalized program that addresses your specific needs and symptoms.

2. Pain Management: If you are experiencing significant discomfort, discussing pain management options with your doctor is crucial. This could include medications, injections, or alternative therapies such as acupuncture or chiropractic care.

3. Regular Monitoring: Since your symptoms are ongoing, regular follow-ups with your healthcare provider are essential. They can monitor your progress and adjust your treatment plan as necessary. If your symptoms worsen or new symptoms arise, it may warrant further investigation.

4. Surgical Consultation: If conservative treatments do not provide relief and your quality of life is significantly affected, you may want to consider consulting a spine specialist for a surgical opinion. Surgery may be necessary in cases of severe nerve compression or if conservative measures fail.

Conclusion
In summary, your symptoms following the motorcycle accident are likely related to the herniated disc in your cervical spine. It's essential to follow up with your healthcare provider to discuss your treatment options and ensure that you are on the right path to recovery. Don't hesitate to seek a second opinion if you feel uncertain about your current treatment plan. Your health and well-being should always be the priority, and there are various avenues to explore for relief and recovery.
