What should I do when I have suicidal thoughts?
mimi, 10~19 year old female. Ask Date: 2004/09/17
Dr. Chen Wenke reply Psychiatry
Mimi: If you have suicidal impulses, it's crucial to seek help immediately.
Never give up on medication treatment.
If you have been on medication for a while and haven't seen any improvement, you should definitely consider switching medications.
If there is still no improvement and the suicidal thoughts remain very strong, electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) could be a viable option; I believe it can be effective.
However, when it comes to treatment, I encourage you to discuss your situation with your physician so they can adjust your treatment plan.
If your physician continues to make no adjustments, it might be time to consider finding a new doctor.
Wishing you the best.
