Am I pregnant?

My last menstrual cycle started on April 30th at noon, and I usually have a regular cycle that begins on the 28th.
Since my next period was expected on May 28th, I noticed a small amount of dark blood on the morning of May 27th.
Then, on the evening of May 29th, I saw a little more dark blood.
However, today is May 30th, and my period still hasn't arrived.
Since May 22nd, my breasts have been very swollen, more so than usual.
Additionally, I've been experiencing unusual sensations in my stomach or abdomen over the past ten days.
Normally, I have a good appetite, but recently I've only been able to eat about four portions before feeling extremely full, and my stomach feels quite uncomfortable.
Doctor, could this situation be a sign of pregnancy? If I am pregnant, why would I still have some bleeding, and why is it dark instead of the usual bright red? Thank you for your help.

If a woman is pregnant, abnormal spotting is generally not expected.
Possible causes include hormonal imbalance, excessive stress, ovarian tumors, and abnormal pregnancies (such as threatened miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy).
However, hormonal imbalance and excessive stress account for the vast majority of cases.

More Info

Your situation raises several important points regarding early pregnancy signs, irregular bleeding, and potential symptoms. Based on your description, it seems you are experiencing some common early signs of pregnancy, but there are also factors that warrant careful consideration.

1. Irregular Bleeding: The dark brown or blackish discharge you are experiencing could be a sign of implantation bleeding, which can occur when a fertilized egg attaches to the uterine lining. This type of bleeding is typically light and may appear brown due to the older blood being expelled. However, it is essential to differentiate between this and other potential causes of irregular bleeding, such as hormonal fluctuations or even early miscarriage. Since you mentioned that your menstrual cycle is usually regular, any deviation from this pattern, especially with the presence of unusual bleeding, should be monitored closely.

2. Breast Changes: The breast tenderness and swelling you are experiencing are common early signs of pregnancy. Hormonal changes, particularly increases in estrogen and progesterone, can lead to these symptoms. If your breasts feel fuller or more sensitive than usual, it could indeed indicate that you may be pregnant.

3. Gastrointestinal Symptoms: The changes in your appetite and feelings of fullness could also be related to early pregnancy. Many women report changes in their digestive system during the first trimester, including nausea, bloating, and altered appetite. These symptoms can be attributed to hormonal changes as well.

4. Timing of Your Menstrual Cycle: Since your last menstrual period began on April 30 and you expected your next one around May 28, the fact that you have not had a full period yet, combined with the irregular bleeding, suggests that you may be experiencing early pregnancy symptoms. It is not uncommon for some women to have light bleeding or spotting even when they are pregnant, particularly around the time their period is due.

5. Next Steps: Given your symptoms and the irregular bleeding, it would be advisable to take a home pregnancy test if you haven't already. These tests are quite accurate and can provide you with a clearer indication of whether you are pregnant. If the test is positive, or if you continue to experience bleeding or other concerning symptoms, it is crucial to consult with a healthcare provider for further evaluation. They may recommend a blood test to measure your hCG levels, which can provide more definitive information about your pregnancy status.

6. When to Seek Medical Attention: If you experience heavy bleeding (similar to a menstrual period), severe cramping, or any other alarming symptoms such as dizziness or fainting, you should seek medical attention immediately. These could be signs of a miscarriage or other complications that require prompt care.

In summary, while your symptoms could indicate early pregnancy, the irregular bleeding and changes in your body should be monitored closely. Taking a pregnancy test and consulting with a healthcare provider will help clarify your situation and ensure that you receive appropriate care. Remember, early prenatal care is essential for a healthy pregnancy, so don't hesitate to reach out to a medical professional with any concerns.
