the Side Effects of Steemit and Lehohu: A Patient's Concern - Pharmacology

Hello, I have been experiencing lower back pain and shoulder and neck discomfort since the end of last year.
The aching sensation occurs daily, and sometimes the pain in my lower back is so severe that I cannot stand.
I have visited a massage therapist, but the relief is only temporary, lasting a few hours before the pain returns.
I underwent tests at a large hospital, including blood and urine tests, which came back normal.
However, the aching sensation persists.
I have been using Steemit for three years, and after taking this medication, I immediately lie down in bed.
This medication was prescribed to me by a neurosurgeon at Mackay Memorial Hospital.
This month, I was switched to another medication called Lexapro.
I am unsure about the side effects of this new medication.
A few hours after taking it, I start to feel very fatigued, and when I wake up the next day, I still feel groggy.
I would like to ask the doctor if Steemit and Lexapro could harm my internal organs or if there are any side effects associated with them.
I have also used pain relief and muscle relaxant medications for a period of time.
Could the lower back pain and shoulder and neck discomfort be related to the medications? Thank you for your response.

Your lower back pain and neck and shoulder discomfort should not be related to the medications.
It is recommended that you visit an orthopedic department for a detailed examination (such as X-rays or CT scans).
Wishing you a speedy recovery!

More Info

It sounds like you are experiencing significant discomfort and have concerns about the medications you are taking, specifically Steemit (likely referring to a medication for neurological conditions) and Lehohu (which may be a brand name for an antidepressant or anxiolytic). Let's break down your concerns regarding these medications, their potential side effects, and how they may relate to your symptoms of back and neck pain.

Understanding Your Medications
1. Steemit: This medication is often prescribed for neurological conditions and may have sedative effects. Common side effects can include drowsiness, fatigue, and muscle relaxation. If you have been taking it for three years, your body may have adapted to it, but it can still contribute to feelings of fatigue and muscle weakness, which might exacerbate your pain.

2. Lehohu: If this is an antidepressant or anxiolytic, it may also have sedative properties. Common side effects of such medications can include drowsiness, fatigue, and cognitive impairment, which might explain the feelings of tiredness and grogginess you experience the next day.

Potential Interactions and Side Effects
Both medications can have overlapping side effects, particularly in terms of sedation and fatigue. When taken together, they may amplify these effects, leading to increased tiredness and possibly contributing to your overall discomfort.

Pain and Medication
Your symptoms of persistent back and neck pain could be multifactorial. While it is possible that the medications you are taking contribute to muscle relaxation and subsequent discomfort, other factors could also be at play:
- Muscle Strain: If you have a sedentary lifestyle or poor posture, this can lead to chronic muscle strain, resulting in pain that may not be directly related to medication.

- Medication Side Effects: As mentioned, both medications can cause muscle relaxation, which might lead to a lack of muscle tone and strength, potentially resulting in discomfort.

- Psychological Factors: Chronic pain can also be influenced by psychological factors, including anxiety and depression, which may be exacerbated by the conditions you are treating with these medications.

Recommendations
1. Consult Your Doctor: It is crucial to discuss your symptoms and concerns with your healthcare provider. They can assess whether your current medications are appropriate or if adjustments are needed. They may consider switching medications or adjusting dosages to minimize side effects.

2. Physical Therapy: Engaging in physical therapy can help address muscle imbalances and improve posture, which may alleviate some of your pain. A physical therapist can provide exercises tailored to your needs.

3. Lifestyle Modifications: Incorporating regular physical activity, maintaining good posture, and practicing stress-reduction techniques can also help manage pain and improve overall well-being.

4. Monitor Symptoms: Keep a diary of your symptoms, noting when pain occurs, its intensity, and any correlation with medication intake. This information can be valuable for your healthcare provider in determining the best course of action.

Conclusion
In summary, while Steemit and Lehohu may contribute to your feelings of fatigue and discomfort, it is essential to consider other factors that may be influencing your pain. A comprehensive approach involving medical consultation, lifestyle changes, and possibly physical therapy may provide relief. Always prioritize open communication with your healthcare provider to ensure that your treatment plan aligns with your health needs.
