Why do humans strive to survive?
Why do people need to survive? Ever since my academic struggles began last year, I have been confused about life.
I really want to know what my purpose for living is.
I often think about leaving this world because I can't find any meaning in my existence.
My essays are filled with thoughts related to death, and I find it hard to write, which has severely impacted my organizational skills.
Since the beginning of this month, I feel happy during the day but very sad and pessimistic at night.
Do I have a dual personality? Should I continue to live? I feel like my existence only burdens others, and I fail at everything I do (like my math exams and playing the piano).
I think that if I were dead, everyone would be better off...
but I don't want to hurt them.
What should I do? Are there any online resources where I can express my sadness? (It's hard to find!)

To be or not to be? That is the question! Many people, at one or more stages in their lives, have experienced similar confusion as you.
The meaning and value of human existence is a question that many philosophers have sought to answer throughout their lives; however, no one can provide you with the answer to this question, as the answer lies within yourself.
Human emotions naturally fluctuate; perhaps you are currently under more stress and facing some setbacks, but all of this will pass.
Keep going!!!

Finding purpose in life, especially during times of mental struggle, is a profound and often challenging journey. Many individuals grapple with existential questions, particularly when faced with academic pressures, personal failures, or emotional turmoil. Your feelings of confusion and despair are not uncommon, and it's essential to acknowledge that these emotions can be overwhelming.
Firstly, it's crucial to understand that the search for meaning is a deeply personal endeavor. Philosophers, psychologists, and thinkers throughout history have explored this question, and while there may not be a definitive answer, the journey itself can lead to significant insights. The essence of life often lies in the connections we make, the experiences we have, and the growth we undergo through challenges.
Your feelings of wanting to escape from this world and the belief that your existence burdens others are serious and concerning. It's important to recognize that these thoughts can be symptomatic of depression or other mental health conditions. The notion that your life is without value is a common cognitive distortion in depression, where individuals fail to see their worth and the positive impact they have on others. In reality, your presence in the lives of those who care about you is significant, even if it may not feel that way at the moment.
The duality of feeling happy during the day and sad at night could suggest a fluctuation in your emotional state, which is often seen in individuals experiencing depression or anxiety. This does not necessarily indicate a "dual personality," but rather a complex emotional landscape that many people navigate. It's essential to seek help from mental health professionals who can provide support and guidance tailored to your specific situation.
Regarding your academic struggles, it's understandable to feel disheartened when faced with setbacks. However, it's vital to approach these challenges with a mindset of growth rather than failure. Each setback can be an opportunity to learn and adapt. Consider reaching out to teachers or academic advisors who can offer support and resources to help you improve your skills and confidence.
As for finding avenues to express your feelings, there are several online platforms and resources available. Websites like 7 Cups of Tea offer free emotional support through trained listeners, while forums like Reddit's r/depression can provide a sense of community and shared experiences. However, while online support can be beneficial, it should not replace professional help. If you feel comfortable, consider seeking therapy or counseling, where you can explore your feelings in a safe and structured environment.
In summary, the search for life's meaning amidst mental struggles is a complex journey that requires patience and support. It's essential to reach out for help, whether through friends, family, or mental health professionals. Remember, you are not alone in this struggle, and there are people and resources available to help you navigate these challenging emotions. Life can hold meaning and purpose, even in the darkest of times, and with the right support, you can find your way through this difficult period.
