Persistent urge to urinate with only a few drops?

Hello Doctor, this week I have had sexual intercourse almost every day.
Last night, my boyfriend may have been a bit too vigorous, and during the intercourse, I even felt abdominal pain.
I didn't think much of it afterward, but this morning I woke up with a strong urge to urinate.
After going to the bathroom, I lay back down for a minute and felt the urge to urinate again.
When I went to the bathroom, I could only squeeze out a drop or two, and there was a slight dark red discoloration.
My menstrual period ended last week, and I usually have an intrauterine device (IUD) for contraception.
I had a precancerous condition of the cervix last year, but I have undergone surgery and have fully recovered.
Could you please tell me what might be wrong? Are there any self-treatment methods I can try? I am currently abroad and may not return to Taiwan until the Lunar New Year, so I am quite worried.
I would greatly appreciate your prompt response.
Thank you very much.

It seems to be a urinary tract infection (UTI), and the symptoms appear to be quite severe.
It is important to seek medical attention from a physician for examination and treatment as soon as possible.

More Info

Frequent urges to urinate accompanied by pain can be concerning, especially when there are additional symptoms such as blood in the urine. Based on your description, there are several potential causes for your symptoms, and it is crucial to consider them seriously.

1. Urinary Tract Infection (UTI): One of the most common causes of frequent urination and pain is a urinary tract infection. UTIs can cause irritation and inflammation of the bladder and urethra, leading to a strong urge to urinate, pain during urination, and even blood in the urine. Given that you experienced abdominal pain during sexual intercourse, it is possible that the irritation may have contributed to the development of a UTI.

2. Bladder or Urethral Injury: The vigorous nature of sexual activity can sometimes lead to trauma to the bladder or urethra, especially if there was significant pressure or friction. This could result in pain, bleeding, and increased urgency to urinate.

3. Cervical or Vaginal Issues: Since you have a history of cervical issues, it is essential to consider that any irritation or trauma to the cervix or surrounding tissues during intercourse could lead to bleeding and discomfort. Although you mentioned that you have recovered from cervical pre-cancer, any changes in your reproductive health should be monitored closely.

4. Endometriosis or Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID): If you have a history of endometriosis or any pelvic inflammatory conditions, these could also contribute to abdominal pain and urinary symptoms. Endometriosis can cause scarring and adhesions that may affect the bladder and lead to similar symptoms.

5. Hormonal Changes: Since you recently finished your menstrual period, hormonal fluctuations could also play a role in your symptoms. However, the presence of blood in your urine is concerning and should not be attributed solely to hormonal changes.

Recommended Actions:
- Seek Medical Attention: Given the presence of blood in your urine and the pain you are experiencing, it is crucial to seek medical attention as soon as possible. If you are currently abroad and unable to return to Taiwan, consider visiting a local healthcare provider or clinic. They can perform a urinalysis and possibly a pelvic examination to determine the cause of your symptoms.

- Hydration: Drink plenty of fluids, especially water, to help flush out your urinary system. This can be beneficial if you are dealing with a UTI.

- Avoid Irritants: Until you can see a doctor, avoid irritants such as caffeine, alcohol, and spicy foods, which can exacerbate urinary symptoms.

- Pain Management: Over-the-counter pain relievers like acetaminophen or ibuprofen may help alleviate some discomfort, but be cautious and consult with a healthcare provider if you have any underlying health conditions or are taking other medications.

- Monitor Symptoms: Keep track of your symptoms, including any changes in the frequency of urination, the presence of blood, and any additional pain. This information will be valuable for your healthcare provider.

Conclusion:
While self-treatment options are limited, the most important step is to seek medical evaluation to rule out serious conditions such as infections or injuries. Your health and well-being are paramount, and timely intervention can prevent complications. Please take care and prioritize getting the medical attention you need.
