Concerns After Circumcision: Why Is My Penis Hard When Flaccid? - Urology

I'm really worried! Since the circumcision, my penis has been feeling hard?

Hello, doctor! Previously, I had phimosis and my penis was very soft and could be easily bent when not erect.
After the circumcision, when not erect, it feels completely hard even at its smallest size.
It seems that the amount of foreskin removed was not excessive, just at the right position.
I asked the surgeon, and he mentioned that if there were issues with blood circulation, it would turn purple, but there is no such discoloration.
Now, my erections are much harder than before.
What could be the reason for this? I'm really nervous because it's quite unusual for my penis to be hard when not erect!

Most likely, it is scar tissue from the surgery, but it is not possible to determine the condition based solely on your brief description.
A thorough consultation and medical history are necessary.
If you have any concerns, it is still advisable to consult the surgeon for evaluation and examination.
Physicians often need to inquire about medical history, conduct visual inspections, palpation, and other examinations to confirm the diagnosis and treatment plan.

After circumcision, it is not uncommon for patients to experience changes in the rigidity and overall feel of the penis when flaccid. Your description of your penis feeling "hard" even when not erect can be concerning, especially if this is a new sensation following your surgery. Let's break down the possible reasons for this phenomenon and what you might consider doing next.

1. Post-Surgical Changes: After circumcision, the penis undergoes several changes as it heals. The removal of the foreskin can lead to alterations in the sensitivity and elasticity of the skin. The glans (the head of the penis) becomes more exposed and may feel firmer due to the absence of the protective foreskin. This can create a sensation of increased rigidity even when the penis is flaccid.

2. Scar Tissue Formation: The healing process can also lead to the formation of scar tissue. Scar tissue can be denser and less elastic than the surrounding tissue, which may contribute to a feeling of hardness. If the circumcision was performed with a significant amount of tissue removal, this could also affect the overall feel of the penis.

3. Blood Flow and Vascular Changes: The surgical procedure may have altered the blood flow dynamics in the area. While you mentioned that there is no discoloration (such as purple or blue hues), it’s still possible that the vascular changes could lead to a sensation of increased firmness. If blood vessels were affected during the procedure, it might take some time for normal circulation to resume.

4. Psychological Factors: Sometimes, the anxiety surrounding surgery and recovery can heighten your awareness of bodily sensations. If you are particularly focused on the changes post-surgery, you may perceive sensations differently than before.

5. Erection Quality: You noted that your erections feel harder than before, which is a positive sign. This could indicate that the removal of the foreskin has allowed for better stimulation and possibly improved blood flow during arousal. The firmness of your erections can also be attributed to the changes in sensitivity and exposure of the glans.

Recommendations:
- Monitor Your Symptoms: Keep track of any changes in sensation, firmness, or discomfort. If the hardness persists or if you experience pain, swelling, or any other concerning symptoms, it is essential to consult your healthcare provider.

- Follow-Up Appointment: Schedule a follow-up appointment with your urologist or the surgeon who performed the circumcision. They can assess your healing process and determine if what you are experiencing is within the normal range of post-operative changes.

- Avoid Self-Diagnosis: While it’s natural to search for answers online, self-diagnosing can lead to unnecessary anxiety. Rely on professional medical advice for accurate information regarding your condition.

- Consider Psychological Support: If anxiety about your condition is affecting your quality of life, consider speaking with a mental health professional. They can help you manage any stress or worry related to your surgery and recovery.

In conclusion, while it is not unusual to experience changes in the rigidity of the penis after circumcision, it is crucial to stay vigilant about any concerning symptoms. Regular follow-ups with your healthcare provider will ensure that you are healing properly and can address any issues that arise during your recovery.
