Post-operative penile edema after circumcision (ongoing for two months)?

I underwent a circumcision around October 9th, and the day after, I experienced swelling.
The doctor mentioned that it would subside in a few days, but it has now been over two months.
Although the swelling has improved significantly since the beginning, it has not completely resolved and shows no signs of decreasing, maintaining a similar size.
Should I seek medical attention for this, or will it resolve on its own?

Mr.
Liu: Hello, applying localized pressure can help reduce swelling more easily.
If it affects blood circulation or lymphatic circulation, the duration of edema may be prolonged.
If there are any unclear points, feel free to ask again, and we can discuss and research further.

Persistent swelling after a circumcision can be concerning, especially if it has been over two months since the procedure. While some swelling is normal following surgery, especially in the first few days, prolonged swelling may indicate an underlying issue that requires medical attention.

In the immediate aftermath of a circumcision, it is common for the surgical site to experience some degree of swelling, redness, and discomfort. This is part of the body's natural healing process. Typically, swelling should begin to subside within a week or two as the tissues heal. However, if the swelling persists beyond this timeframe, it may be a sign of complications such as infection, fluid accumulation (seroma), or other issues related to the surgical site.

Here are some signs and symptoms to watch for that would warrant a visit to your healthcare provider:
1. Increased Swelling: If the swelling is not only persistent but also increasing, this could indicate an issue that needs to be addressed.

2. Pain or Discomfort: While some discomfort is expected, significant pain that worsens over time may suggest complications.

3. Redness or Warmth: If the area becomes increasingly red or warm to the touch, this could be a sign of infection.

4. Discharge: Any unusual discharge from the surgical site, especially if it is pus-like or has a foul odor, should be evaluated by a doctor.

5. Fever: A fever accompanying the swelling could indicate an infection and should prompt immediate medical attention.

6. Changes in Urination: If you experience difficulty urinating or notice changes in your urine, this could be related to the surgical site and should be discussed with a healthcare provider.

Given that you mentioned the swelling has not completely resolved after two months, it is advisable to seek medical advice. A healthcare professional can perform a physical examination, assess the surgical site, and determine if any further treatment is necessary. They may also provide reassurance if the swelling is within normal limits or suggest interventions if there are signs of complications.

In summary, while some swelling after circumcision is normal, persistent swelling lasting over two months should not be ignored. It is best to consult with your healthcare provider to ensure proper healing and to rule out any potential complications. Early intervention can often prevent more serious issues and promote a smoother recovery.
