My question is as stated in the title?
I am 23 years old and I’m not sure if it's just my generation, but I am 178 cm tall.
However, many of my friends are over 180 cm.
I have read quite a few articles on this topic.
I have always exercised, and my job requires me to be in the sun for 5 to 8 hours a day.
Milk is like warm water to me, and I also enjoy weight training at home.
My job feels like a weight training session every day.
Unfortunately, I chew betel nut and smoke, but my habits are much better than those of my friends, and my physical strength is significantly higher than theirs.
I usually go to bed by 10 PM and wake up at 6 AM.
My parents' height, calculated mathematically, is 174 cm, but I have ancestry from the indigenous people of Taiwan.
I don’t understand why, despite my efforts to grow 2 more centimeters, I haven’t been able to increase my height.
What other possibilities are there for me to grow a little taller?

At 23 years old, it's understandable to be concerned about height, especially when comparing yourself to friends or societal standards. However, it's important to recognize that height is largely determined by genetics, and by this age, most individuals have reached their maximum height potential.
Height growth is primarily influenced by the growth plates in the bones, which are areas of developing cartilage tissue near the ends of long bones. In most individuals, these growth plates close after puberty, typically around the ages of 16 to 18 for females and 18 to 21 for males. Once these plates close, further height increase is unlikely. Given that you are 23, it is very probable that your growth plates have already fused, meaning that your height is unlikely to change significantly.
Several factors contribute to height, including genetics, nutrition, physical activity, and overall health. You mentioned that you have a strong athletic background, engage in weight training, and maintain a healthy sleep schedule, which are all positive factors for overall health. However, habits such as smoking and chewing betel nut can negatively impact your health and potentially affect your growth and development. Smoking is known to have various detrimental effects on the body, including reduced circulation and potential impacts on bone health.
Your height of 178 cm is above average in many populations, and while it may not meet the height of some of your friends, it is still a respectable height. It's also worth noting that height does not define a person's worth or capabilities. Many successful individuals are of average height or shorter, and confidence, skills, and personality often play a more significant role in social and professional success than height alone.
If you are still concerned about your height, it might be beneficial to consult with a healthcare professional, such as an endocrinologist or a sports medicine specialist. They can assess your growth history, evaluate any hormonal factors, and provide personalized advice. However, it's essential to focus on what you can control, such as maintaining a healthy lifestyle, engaging in regular exercise, and fostering positive relationships.
In conclusion, while it is natural to desire a few extra centimeters, it is crucial to accept and appreciate your height as part of who you are. Emphasizing your strengths, such as your athleticism and dedication to health, will serve you better than fixating on height alone. Remember, confidence and self-acceptance are key to personal and professional success, and these qualities often shine brighter than any physical attribute.
