Glans Sensitivity and Moisture Issues After Prolonged Exposure - Urology

Glans issues

Hello, doctor.
I previously asked if it's possible for the glans to be exposed for 24 hours.
I've been exposed for a month and a half now, and I've gotten used to it.
However, these past few days, when I try to retract the foreskin, I notice that my glans is moist throughout the day, even though I do clean myself after urinating.
Could you please explain what might be causing this? Before I was exposed, I didn't have this issue, but now that I've gotten used to being exposed, I experience this phenomenon when I try to cover it again.
Currently, to avoid having a moist glans, I keep it exposed.

Dr. Du Shixi reply Urology

Hello: The foreskin covers areas that can trap moisture, leading to wetness after urination.
If exposed, the underwear will dry out.
Wishing you good health.

Understanding glans sensitivity and moisture issues after prolonged exposure can be quite complex, especially when considering the anatomical and physiological changes that occur in the genital area. The glans penis, or the head of the penis, is typically covered by the foreskin in uncircumcised males. When the foreskin is retracted for extended periods, as in your case, the glans is exposed to the external environment, which can lead to several changes.

Firstly, prolonged exposure of the glans can lead to increased sensitivity. The skin of the glans is usually moist and protected by the foreskin, which helps maintain a certain level of moisture and prevents irritation. When exposed, the glans may become desensitized initially, but over time, it can become hypersensitive due to constant stimulation from clothing, friction, and environmental factors. This increased sensitivity can lead to discomfort or a feeling of wetness, even if there is no actual excess moisture.

The sensation of moisture you are experiencing could be attributed to several factors:
1. Natural Secretions: The body produces natural secretions, including smegma, which is a combination of dead skin cells, oils, and moisture. When the foreskin is retracted, these secretions can accumulate on the glans, leading to a feeling of dampness.

2. Sweat and Environmental Factors: The genital area is prone to sweating, especially in warm conditions or during physical activity. This can contribute to a feeling of moisture on the glans.

3. Irritation or Infection: If the glans is exposed for an extended period, it may become irritated due to friction or contact with clothing. This irritation can lead to increased moisture production as the body attempts to protect the area. Additionally, if there is any infection or inflammation, it could also cause increased moisture and discomfort.

4. Psychological Factors: Sometimes, the awareness of the glans being exposed can lead to increased sensitivity and the perception of moisture, even if the physical conditions have not changed significantly.

If you are experiencing discomfort or persistent moisture that is bothersome, it may be advisable to consult a healthcare professional. They can assess for any signs of infection, irritation, or other underlying conditions that may require treatment.
In terms of managing the situation, if you find that keeping the foreskin retracted is uncomfortable, you might consider retracting it only during specific activities (like bathing) and allowing it to return to its natural position afterward. This can help maintain the natural moisture balance and protect the glans from irritation.

In summary, the changes you are experiencing after prolonged exposure of the glans are likely due to a combination of natural secretions, environmental factors, and potential irritation. If the symptoms persist or worsen, seeking medical advice would be a prudent step to ensure there are no underlying issues that need to be addressed.
