Shoulder
Two months ago, I had a shoulder strain.
It doesn't hurt anymore, but now it feels very heavy, as if I'm carrying something weighing over ten pounds.
What could be the reason for this?

After a shoulder injury, although the pain has subsided, the process of tissue and fascia repair can lead to the formation of fibrous tissue.
The visible "scab" on the surface is similar to the fibrous tissue that forms beneath the skin.
This tissue can obstruct the circulation of qi and blood.
When temperatures drop, during heavy winds and rain, or when there is an accumulation of bodily fluids, one may experience a feeling of heaviness or discomfort, especially during episodes of diarrhea.
In such cases, taking warmer medications orally or applying heat with warm water can help alleviate the sensation of heaviness.

More Info
Shoulder pain and the sensation of heaviness following an injury can be attributed to several factors, particularly after a strain or sprain. When you experience a shoulder injury, the surrounding muscles, tendons, and ligaments can become inflamed or weakened, leading to a variety of symptoms, including pain, stiffness, and a feeling of heaviness.
1. Muscle Weakness and Imbalance: After an injury, the muscles around the shoulder may weaken due to disuse or protective mechanisms. This can lead to an imbalance in muscle strength, making the shoulder feel heavy as the remaining muscles work harder to compensate for the weakened ones. The rotator cuff, which is crucial for shoulder stability and movement, may also be affected, leading to a sensation of heaviness.
2. Inflammation: Even if the acute pain has subsided, inflammation can persist in the shoulder joint or surrounding tissues. This inflammation can create a feeling of heaviness or pressure in the shoulder, as the body continues to respond to the injury.
3. Tendonitis or Bursitis: Conditions such as tendonitis (inflammation of the tendons) or bursitis (inflammation of the bursa, a fluid-filled sac that reduces friction) can develop after an injury. These conditions can cause discomfort and a sensation of heaviness, especially when lifting or moving the arm.
4. Nerve Involvement: Sometimes, nerve irritation or compression can occur after a shoulder injury. This can lead to sensations of heaviness, tingling, or weakness in the arm. If the nerves that supply the shoulder and arm are affected, it may contribute to the feeling of heaviness.
5. Psychological Factors: After an injury, individuals may develop anxiety or fear about using the injured shoulder, leading to altered movement patterns. This can create a perception of heaviness or discomfort, even if there is no significant physical issue.
6. Rehabilitation and Recovery: It’s essential to engage in a proper rehabilitation program after a shoulder injury. Physical therapy can help restore strength, flexibility, and function to the shoulder. If you have not yet started a rehabilitation program, it may be beneficial to consult with a physical therapist who can provide exercises tailored to your specific condition.
7. Consultation with a Specialist: If the sensation of heaviness persists or worsens, it is advisable to consult with an orthopedic specialist or a physical therapist. They can perform a thorough evaluation, including physical examinations and possibly imaging studies, to determine the underlying cause of your symptoms and recommend appropriate treatment.
In summary, the feeling of heaviness in your shoulder after an injury can result from muscle weakness, inflammation, tendonitis, nerve involvement, psychological factors, or a combination of these. Engaging in a structured rehabilitation program and consulting with a healthcare professional can help address these issues and promote recovery.
