Sheep placenta extract and propolis?

Hello, pharmacist: I just found out I'm pregnant, and I would like to ask: 1.
Can pregnant women consume "sheep placenta extract" and "propolis"? I've heard that these two are excellent natural products.
2.
Is the commercially available "Daka Daan Milk" suitable for pregnant women? Thank you!

Yonglin, 20~29 year old female. Ask Date: 2005/01/11

Hello; Is placental extract beneficial for menopausal women? I'm not very clear, but I have seen some reports as follows: Brucellosis can be transmitted from animals such as cattle and sheep.
If one comes into contact with or consumes undercooked infected animal organs, drinks unpasteurized cow's blood, milk, sheep's milk, or related by-products, they may become infected.
The medical community warns that infection with this bacteria can be fatal in severe cases.
Fresh sheep placenta contains bacteria and should absolutely not be consumed, as there have been rare cases in Hong Kong of brucellosis infection from consuming sheep placenta, with most foreign cases involving veterinarians, slaughterhouse workers, and farm employees.
To date, there is no medical evidence supporting the benefits or efficacy of consuming sheep placenta or injecting placental extract; in fact, there have been reports of severe allergic reactions following the injection of placental extract.
Therefore, most Western physicians do not encourage patients to pursue these measures.
This is some of the reporting, and in Taiwan, very few people use it for menopausal disorders.
I suggest using natural foods to help with menopausal symptoms and to avoid using unproven medications.
Additionally, you can consult an obstetrician-gynecologist for advice on menopausal care and helpful therapies.
Another product, propolis, is a natural food, but I strongly believe that pregnant women should avoid using any unverified medications.
Da'an milk contains vitamins, minerals, trace elements, and amino acids; whether it can be used during pregnancy, you can consult your obstetrician-gynecologist.
Personally, I think it's better to consume natural foods in early pregnancy.
Is this response acceptable? Bye.

More Info

When it comes to the consumption of sheep placenta and propolis during pregnancy, it is essential to approach the topic with caution and a thorough understanding of the potential risks and benefits.
1. Sheep Placenta: The consumption of sheep placenta, often marketed for its supposed health benefits, is not recommended for pregnant women. While some claim that it can provide various health benefits, there is no substantial scientific evidence to support these claims. Moreover, there are significant safety concerns associated with consuming animal products during pregnancy. One major risk is the potential for zoonotic infections, such as brucellosis, which can be transmitted through the consumption of undercooked or raw animal products, including placenta. Brucellosis can lead to severe complications for both the mother and the fetus. Additionally, fresh sheep placenta may harbor bacteria that could pose a risk to pregnant women. Therefore, it is advisable to avoid consuming sheep placenta during pregnancy.

2. Propolis: Propolis is a natural substance produced by bees, often touted for its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. While it is generally considered safe for most people, there is limited research on its safety during pregnancy. The lack of comprehensive studies means that the effects of propolis on pregnant women and their developing fetuses are not well understood. As a precaution, it is best for pregnant women to avoid using propolis unless specifically recommended by a healthcare provider.
3. Da Ke Da An Milk: This product, which contains vitamins, minerals, trace elements, and amino acids, may be more suitable for pregnant women. However, it is crucial to consult with a healthcare provider before incorporating any new supplements or products into your diet during pregnancy. Each pregnancy is unique, and a healthcare professional can provide personalized advice based on your specific health needs and circumstances.

In summary, while both sheep placenta and propolis are often marketed as natural health products, their safety during pregnancy is questionable. The potential risks associated with consuming sheep placenta, particularly regarding infections, outweigh any unproven benefits. Propolis, while generally safe, should also be approached with caution due to the lack of research on its effects during pregnancy. On the other hand, products like Da Ke Da An Milk may be beneficial, but it is essential to seek guidance from a healthcare provider to ensure that any dietary choices made during pregnancy are safe and appropriate.
Ultimately, maintaining a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins is the best approach to support both maternal and fetal health during pregnancy. Always prioritize safety and consult with your healthcare provider regarding any supplements or dietary changes during this critical time.
